Veteran UK actor, best known for Keeping Up Appearances, has died.

Veteran UK actor Clive Swift, best known for Keeping Up Appearances, has died aged 82.

He died on Friday morning after suffering a short illness.

Swift (pictured right) enjoyed a career in film and television spanning more than 40 years. Prior to his screen career he was a respected star as part of the Royal Shakespeare Company.

From 1990 to 1995, he starred in Keeping Up Appearances as Richard Bucket, the long-suffering husband of Hyacinth Bucket played by Patricia Routledge.

His other credits included parts in adaptations of The Barcester Chronicles and The Pickwick Papers, Doctor Who, Born and Bred, Peak Practice and The Old Guys and the 1981 film Excalibur.

  1. I met Clive at a primary school fete in Oxford many years ago. He was the “special guest” because one of his kids/grandkids went to the school, and I was dressed as a clown! He was a true gentleman – very down to earth, and told me lots of stories about the filming they had just finished on the QE2 for KUA. May he rest in peace.

  2. It was interesting on the news, to see the many characters he was ‘made up’ to be without us realising it was him. Another loss of true artist , whose family can be proud of his legacy. He was just a tall as Patricia in KUA.
