Nine looking at new AFL shows

Shane Crawford, James Hird & Christian O’Connell filmed an AFL pilot in December.

Nine is not about to yield AFL entertainment to Seven, indicating it is already looking at new shows, following the end of its Footy Show era.

The Herald Sun reports Shane Crawford and James Hird filmed a pilot for a round-in-review show at the end of December with Gold FM host Christian O’Connell. The show is aimed at a late-night Sunday timeslot.

Nine’s programming director, Hamish Turner, said, “We’d be stupid not to be looking at ways we can provide an alternative and a connection to that brand.

“We’ll definitely be looking at alternatives going forward.”

It’s believed the earliest a new show could go to air is July.

Nine already has Footy Classified, The Sunday Footy Show and newcomer The Oval Office.

  1. Let’s not forget that Seven took decades to get a successful AFL show up and running. There were awful shows like Live and Kicking, The Club, The Bounce to name just a few. Nine will come good when it finds the right mix.
