Johanna Griggs exits as House Rules host

"I recently sat down with the Network to ask to be allowed to step down," says Joh Griggs.

Johanna Griggs has announced her departure from House Rules after 7 seasons.

On Instagram she said, “Hi @houseruleson7 fans. Thank you for your incredible, passionate support throughout Season 7, & congratulations to our Champions Pete and Courtney. ?

“I’ve got some news for you all. After a great deal of consideration, I recently sat down with the Network to ask to be allowed to step down as Host of House Rules. They have very graciously agreed for me to do that, which I’m incredibly appreciative of. As the show goes into preproduction for the next season, it’s the perfect time to hand over the role to someone who will take the show into S8.

“Reality TV production has been an eye opener, they are such enormous beasts with so many people involved, and I’ve had a great time over the last 7 years steering the ship, getting to work with many of my favourite camera crews as we criss-crossed the country… & having a blast playing Dress ups & experimenting with different looks…. with two of my best friends in Rosie Trindall (Stylist Extraordinaire) & Lisa Soames (Hair and Make up guru). It was a seriously fun part of working on the show.

“As was collaborating with two great writers in Grant Osborn & Robert Adams along with numerous audio operators as we recorded the voice overs. Sometimes we giggled so much, it was hard to get the words out! I’ve worked with fantastic judges in Joe Snell, Drew Heath, Jamie Durie & Laurence Llewellyn-Bowen… & the beautiful & talented Wendy Moore right from the start of the show. She & design mentor Carolyn Burns McCrave helped make every series so much fun. (Go the Girl (staying) Power!!) But the best part always for me, has been getting to know the teams. We’ve laughed & cried together; they all trusted me very quickly & made my job incredibly easy which I’m so thankful & grateful for.

“My role as host of Better Homes and Gardens, which everyone knows I’m crazy about, keeps me very busy. Hopefully now though, with a different work load, I’ll be in a better position to take up one or two of the great opportunities that come my way, especially with 7 Sport, which is such a passion for me.

“But thank you for being such a fun audience to interact with. Now I’m returning to my holiday with my darling husband. Back soon, Johanna.:)”

  1. By all accounts here, she’s a really nice person, but i feel she’s one of those over exposed celebrities. With BH&G and her sport gigs, yeah just too much, and i’m not sure how being an ex swimmer qualifies her to be really appropriate for a renovations/lifestyle show either.

    1. Johanna is a highly experienced bona fide TV personality in a very competitive, professional industry but she wants a family life too, who can blame her.

  2. In my books I rate Johanna just as highly as Deborah Knight. Both exude warmth and personality. I wish Johanna all the very best in her future endeavours.

  3. Had the pleasure of meeting this wonderful woman when I did some behind the scenes stuff for BH&G many years ago. What you see on screen is what you see off screen, always smiling! All the best for the future Joh

  4. Joh is absolutely lovely. I know a House Rules team from a couple of years ago whose mother was battling cancer during production. Joh visited the mother’s home and stayed in contact by phone afterwards. Her personal touch brought joy to all concerned. Now that’s a genuine lady right there.

    1. Met her at Logies for the first time and she was lovely. She reads the site and has always been direct with her social media followers. I absolutely take this at face value. Don’t forget HR requires a lot of travel as does BH&G.

      1. Joh is the real deal, what you see is what you get. A friend of mine who works in the industry was once her right-hand woman and had nothing but praise. When it was her last day at work, Joh went out of her way to buy her cake and a bunch of flowers to thank her for her efforts. Joh has also done a lot for mental health awareness. I love how she defends herself when mainstream media publish unfounded stories about her.

  5. I wouldn’t be shocked if this was all smoke and mirrors and she was removed. The demographic for House Rules skews older and less advertiser friendly. I’d expect to see a younger and likely, male, replacement.

    1. Scott Cam next? Highly unlikely. Not sure if it’s Channel 9 or Scott but someone is clever in not over taxing us with Scott across multiple platforms. He sticks with The Block and I have to say it works.

  6. I love Joh, she’s all class. Will be great to see her in other roles she can be more passionate about.

As for a left field replacement host, why don’t they consider Sophie Formica? She’s still with 7 in SEQld. Because let’s face it, someone in 7 right now is probably putting Luke Jacobz forward for the role…

  7. I became a fan of Joh’s from her hosting duties for the Australian Summer of Tennis. She is a tennis fan and it showed. Much better than any of the other network personalities Seven would give hosting duties to. So it was a shame when she had to give it up to do House Rules.

What sport would Joh cover now the tennis is not with Seven? My first thought was Swimming but the network has setup a team with Basil Zemplis, Giaan Rooney and Nathan Templeton and might not want to rock the boat.

  8. I have read about this young woman since she was very young…she is amazing…dignified….she has had quite a life…. She is a light to what ever she takes on…all the best wishes to her….⭐?
