Gillian Anderson has been confirmed to join The Crown as Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.
The casting was tipped back in January.
“I am so excited to be joining the cast and crew of The Crown and to have the opportunity to portray such a complicated and controversial woman,” Anderson said in a statement announcing the news,” she said.
“Thatcher was undoubtedly formidable but I am relishing exploring beneath the surface and, dare I say, falling in love with the icon who, whether loved or despised, defined an era.”
Anderson won’t appear until Season 4, expected in 2020.
Season 3, due on Sunday November 17 on Netflix, features Olivia Colman, Tobias Menzies, Helena Bonham Carter, Josh O’Connor , Marion Bailey, Jason Watkins, Ben Daniels and Erin Doherty.
