2020 Upfronts: 10: Five Bedrooms, Masked Singer, DWTS renewed.

  • Three new MasterChef judges Jock Zonfrillo, Melissa Leong and Andy Allen
  • Renewed: Five Bedrooms, Dancing with the Stars, Kinne Tonight
  • Two x Survivor seasons
  • Drunk History series
  • New local drama The Secrets She Keeps, Neighbours turns 35
  • Third Pilot Week
  • New US titles: FBI Most Wanted, The Gilded Age

2020 will feature more returning shows for 10 than ever before, following several strong performers on its 2019 schedule.

10 has surprisingly released much of its Upfronts announcements ahead of its event later today -but kept the name of 3 new MasterChef judges under wraps until media are gathered.

Updated: Jock Zonfrillo, Melissa Leong and Andy Allen to judge season with returning contestants.

Network 10 Chief Content Officer, Beverley McGarvey, said: “A year ago we talked about cementing our position as leaders in escapist entertainment and promised we would have differentiated flagship content targeting our key target market of under 50s – 50 weeks a year.

“We delivered on that promise and Australians responded. We’ve seen year-on year TV share growth in all key demographics since August. 10 Play and 10 Daily have delivered record audience numbers. 10 All Access is an out-of-the-box success. Our 10 Speaks podcasts are winning new fans every day.

“This year we’ve successfully added new, multi-platform content that will grow in the years to come, including The Masked Singer Australia, Dancing With The Stars and Five Bedrooms,” she said.

“Those three new hits have joined a stable of proven performers including MasterChef Australia, Have You Been Paying Attention?, Gogglebox, The Bachelor Australia, Australian Survivor, The Project, 10 News First, The Bachelorette Australia, I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here!, the Melbourne Cup Carnival and many more.

“In 2020, our content will be everywhere – across all platforms – creating a playground that will ensure our shows connect with Australians like never before and get all of Australia talking.”

Julia Morris and Chris Brown return for a new season of I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here now in early January. Australian Survivor: All Stars hits screens in February with a second season confirmed for later in the year.

Also in February, Amanda Keller & Grant Denyer return for Dancing With The Stars -now filmed in Melbourne, in what is believed to be due to studio demands at FOX Studios.

Bachelor In Paradise screens early next year with The Bachelor Australia to take on the Olympic Games in July. The Bachelorette also returns.

The Masked Singer, 10’s most successful new series launch in almost 5 years, returns. Duh.

There will also be new seasons of Have You Been Paying Attention?, Gogglebox, Hughesy We Have A Problem, Kinne Tonight and, Taboo while 2018 pilot week entry Drunk History proceeds to series. 10 plans on making announcements around 2019 pilot week shows in “the next few months.” Pilot Week 2020 is also confirmed.

In local drama Five Bedrooms is renewed, plus more of Playing for Keeps and How to Stay Married. New drama The Secrets She Keeps, originally due in 2019, will air in 2020.

Perennial soap Neighbours will turn 35, over on 10 Peach.

Also confirmed are more of The Living Room, Ambulance Australia, Todd Sampson’s BodyHack and Bondi Rescue.

Sporting highlights include Melbourne Cup Carnival, Formula 1 2020 Australian Grand Prix, Bathurst 1000, Supercars, Rugby including the Bledisloe Cup and the MotoGP World Championship.

The Project enters its second decade and there’s more of 10 News First and Studio 10.

New international for 2020 are FBI Most Wanted, starring  Julian McMahon, and (the long-awaited) The Gilded Age from Julian Fellowes (Downton Abbey) starring Christine Baranski, Cynthia Nixon and Amanda Peet. Also back is more of NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles, Bull, FBI, The Graham Norton Show, The Conners, various Jamie Oliver titles and more.

Also confirmed are The Amazing Race Australia and One Born Every Minute Australia and Celebrity Name Game.

This post updates.

  1. I’m excited they’ve got The Gilded Cage. New MC judges, 2 seasons of Survivor, plus I’m a Celeb, and BIP, and The Bachelor and The Bachelorette! I’m in heaven. Glad Taboo got renewed, also.

  2. More survivor is a good thing, can’t see how it’s bad, a shorter all star season is not great. It needs to be the same, and so what if it’s the same time as American, they are on different channels, it was on at same time last year towards the end. Bring on all types of survivor I say.

  3. There is a few low rating programs there that I’m surprised have been renewed. Glad to see Bondi Rescue and The Living Room are returning though. All the best to 10 in 2020!

    • Unlikely, as it’s far more expensive than Survivor, and though I’m hoping it will, it won’t rate as high as Survivor. Even the US are only doing one season a year now.

  4. Pleased but surprised DWTS is coming back. It is quite expensive and averaged under 500k for most of the series, hardly brilliant figures. Hopefully there aren’t any budget cuts. Next season definitely needs a comedian as Denise Scott was great, maybe Dave Hughes, Peter Helliar or more realistically Kitty Flanagan. Steve Price was great value in the jungle but given Channel 9 is now his main employer that one might be difficult to get across the line.

  5. I read on news.com.au the following about Masked Singer: “Despite what you may have read, we will have exactly the same judging line-up and exactly the same host,” Beverley McGarvey said. And “Despite the criticisms, McGarvey told news.com.au the masked singers would be of a similar level of fame in season two.”
Knowing this, I am unlikely to watch season two, as my interest is already waning on season one, and my patience for two of the judges have worn very thin.

I’m so glad we are getting FBI Most Wanted. When I heard they were doing a spin off & Julian McMahon was in it I got excited but was wary. We don’t always get the spin offs of shows or they go to bloody foxtel like Chicago PD. Still waiting for the Blacklist spin off which was on a few years ago in the US & the Greys spin off. Come on 7 get your act together.

  7. Two Survivor seasons next year!!! Maybe the All Stars season will be shorter? Like 16 or 18 competitors? That would be most ideal in my opinion. Nevertheless I am very excited!

  8. Happy with Five Bedrooms returning. 10 has a promising line up. Like others have said hope the All Stars season is shorter so it’s not over kill of a brand that has built over the years.

Also questioning no mention of This Is Us.

All the best 10 for 2020. And thanks David for a detailed article.

I’m so happy about 5 Bedrooms. Had a crappy day at work so coming home to this is news is awesome.

Also is Playing for Keeps is getting a third season before the second has started airing?

  10. I’m always down for more Survivor but having Aus Survivor All Stars airing in February along with US Survivor Clash of Champions seams like an overload (that I will still probably obsess over)).

  11. With I’m A Celeb brought forward ahead of the ratings year, I wonder if it’ll be the last season. I hope the two seasons of Survivor AU isn’t overkill (and I am hoping the All Stars season is a niche, shorter season for that reason).

  12. Interesting Mom is listed under 10 Peach, but as far as i’m aware its current season isn’t yet finished on Nine. Also there is no mention of This is Us.

    • I agree it was a great drama and I am glad it will return. Ch 10 had a great offering of Aussie dramas!
Hope My life is murder also returns.
I read The Secret She Keeps by Michael Robotham a dark suspenseful read, could be gripping viewing.
