Multichannel Survey 2019: ABC KIDS Comedy, ABC ME, ABC News

Today we look at ABC’s four brands split over three multichannels.

Since last year’s survey ABC Comedy has shifted from 18-49 to 25-49 target, while ABC News which was All People is now 16+.

ABC has the #1 preschool channel in Australia while ABC News hints at a new project launching early October.

 RECENT SUCCESS STORIES: #1 preschool channel (share and reach) in Australia. Since its launch in October 2018, Series 1 of Logie Award winning series, Bluey has achieved 100 million program plays on iview in July, 2019. This year, Play School premiered two very special episodes; in Acknowledgement of Country, Luke, Miranda and Hunter to give an Acknowledgement of Country and celebrate Australia’s First People. The special also introduced Kiya, Playschool’s first female Indigenous toy. Play School Beginnings and Endings has achieved a broadcast average of 297,000 amongst total people and in Beginnings and Endings Play School celebrates new life and reflects on loved ones who’ve died. With stories and play we explore what can be challenging times for children. We met a newborn baby and Alex shared how he remembers his grandmother. / The ABC COMEDY Binges on iview have been incredibly successful. The summer binge drew 1.493m plays, and the April binge, including Australian premiere titles Women on the Verge and This Time with Alan Partridge, achieved 1.045m plays. Emmy-award winning State of the Union, starring Chris O’Dowd and Rosamund Pike has achieved a complete audience of 188k YTD.

With a keen focus on Australian stories and points of view, as well as the best from around the world. ABC ME is also the home of ABC TV Education, providing longform educational content for teachers and students.

RECENT SUCCESS STORIES: Digital viewing and the ABC ME app continues to be an important part of our offering for young audiences. At the beginning of April this year we launched the complete series of Hardball in our digital school holiday campaign, “Best Fest.” This series exceeded expectations for our app viewers achieving 524,000 plays during the 30 day campaign. These audiences carried over to our linear channel when the series had its broadcast premiere two weeks later. We also saw great success with Gristmil’s The Inbestigators. Their previous hit Little Lunch has captured the hearts of Australians for years and The Inbestigators looks to continue in the vein having remained one of our top titles across both linear and iview since launch in June. Made in Western Sydney ABC ME’s comedy drama Hardball was  huge coviewing hit with 8-12s and their families on broadcast and online.

    Shame the news presented by Beverley O’Connor on ABC News 24 has shifted too 8pm now. Used to watch that bulletin on my break at work which is 9pm.
