Celebrity Name Game trails ABC

Ratings: 10 tops the demos but has headaches at 6pm. Nine wins Wednesday.

10 has problems with Celebrity Name Game, last night drawing just 141,000. That’s considerably lower than its axed predecessor Pointless, which was hovering around 200,000.

It left the show 4th in its slot behind The Drum on 152,000.

TV Tonight understands 10 has a stockpile of episodes to take the show through until April next year. Interestingly when 10 ran a 5:30 – 6:30 news on Cup day it fared much better, including for The Project -albeit with a racing boost.

Meanwhile The Block led in its 7:30 slot on 811,000. That was ahead of The Bachelorette on 696,000, but which still topped the demos. Both were up on last Wednesday.

7:30 (556,000), Motorbike Cops (498,000),  Highway Patrol (490,000) and Julia Zemiro’s Home Delivery (479,000) all followed.

Gruen led from 8:30pm at 648,000 then The Good Doctor (484,000), Frayed (333,000 from 9pm), -all of which were up on last week- plus Love Island (320,000)  and Playing for Keeps (274,000).

Nine network won Wednesday with 28.2% then Seven 26.5%, 10 18.8%, ABC 17.4% and SBS 9.2%.

Nine News was 842,000 / 816,000 for Nine then A Current Affair (760,000), and Hot Seat (471,000 / 317,000). Abused By My Girlfriend was 184,000.

Seven News was #1 at 897,000 / 886,000 then Home & Away (559,000). The Chase drew 507,000 / 322,000 and God Friended Me was 246,000.

The Project drew 500,000 / 256,000 for 10 then 10 News First (299,000). A One Born Every Minute replay was just 100,000.

ABC News (600,000), and Adam Hills: The Last Leg (143,000) and also comprised ABC’s night.

On SBS it was Britain’s Ancient Tracks (229,000), Years and Years (189,000 across two episodes) and SBS World News (129,000).

Bluey led multichannels at 172,000.

Sunrise: 253,000
Today: 201,000
News Breakfast: 115,000 / 41,000

  1. As a wannabe tv programmer I’m a big fan of many 10 programs and as is regularly commented on this site their morning and early evening shows are the issue. I’d love to see a quiz show with a balance of fun and intelligence at 5pm. Paul McDermott or Mark Humphries would be great hosts. News at 5:30 – 6:30 and keep The Project where it is. The 5pm slot seems to be the key to bringing in the viewers and hopefully keeping them throughout the evening.

  2. Poor numbers for ‘Years and Years’ on SBS, considering the constant barrage of advertising for it on the network-I recorded it and found myself fast forwarding through much of the absurdly “diverse” family drama.

  3. I suggest this line up:
5.00 New Game show with a final round like ‘The Final Chase’
    5.30 10 News First
    6.00 The Project
    7.00 – 7.30 10 Daily News – new show
And on Sundays have Celeb Name Game at 6.30- 7.00 and move The Sunday Project at 8.30 – 9.30.

  4. I can never quite understand how people want stations to replace shows that are rating terribly with shows that have already failed before? They were cut or moved to another channel for a reason, they didn’t rate so why would you bring it back? I always love my game shows but gee Grant Denyer is so hard to take these days. Way too over the top as usual and his ‘jokes’ are rude and just plain old not funny!

  5. Crazy idea but how about something more suited for kids/young family at 6pm Network Ten.
You can see how well Bluey, Shaun the Sheep etc does. How about Mr Squiggle or an Agro Totally Wild crossover for the prime time or something similar returning to the 2000’s era. Surely it wouldn’t cost much either and if its a hit image the merchandise $$$$

    1. And none of them considered where regional WIN News fits in. 10 has to consider that too when they come up with their timetable, but it’s easy for the people here to forget about that.

  6. Neighbours 6pm on 10 is the way to go. They have the content right there, surely it will not cost them extra. I am sick of watching it in such a low resolution standard def on Peach. It looks horrendous on a 65″ screen.

  7. Maybe its time to brink back Family Feud and if it rates well over Christmas than bring it back Chanel Ten said they could bring it back as the set is already stored. Or even bring back Sale of the Century which I thought Ten had shown interest in, maybe this would be the better option.

    1. Well said ??
Even if it was getting low ratings up until it finished
at least up it was doing better than anything else they’ve put on since, like Pointless or Celebrity Name Game

  8. I have often thought I wonder how ten would go with CNG at 5pm and News 530 to 630.

They should try this over summer using the line, “We think our viewers would enjoy a half hour later news as the sun is up later”

  9. With 10 news, i always thought it should be 5:30 – 6:30pm

5:30 part should be world news, sport and weather, which is a national news broadcast, then 6pm, can be state based with interstate news, sport and weather. At least this way it breaks the news up into two parts. Maybe this should be tested over summer. I wonder what other people think of this?

  10. 10 would not want to run CNG till April next year….surely. The obvious next step is 10 News First moving to 5.30-6.30 allowing it to keep its current branding…and get more eyeballs onto its news and a higher lead into The Project. Move CNG to 5pm in January to let it play out if needed.

  11. Well it looks like that we have to put up with the show for a little while more. Maybe they could show the news at the later time. I am glad that I am not a programmer. Pointless was very watchable, this program is forgettable, maybe different shows mon to fri

        1. I can see it being dumped straight to 7plus if it repeats to that figure (or lower) next Wednesday, assuming consolidated viewing for 7 days doesn’t move much.

        2. Funny I stopped my PVR remembered this was on and enjoyed the mindless challenge, although they cut through too many teams to half way through the challenge, so you didn’t get to appreciate their athleticism!
