SKY News talk show Hinch is ending on December 5 and host Derryn Hinch has given TV Tonight further insight into the move.
“It’s a mutual parting,” he revealed.
“I just didn’t fit the SKY mould. Not right-wing enough. I called myself “the hammock” slung between Bolt and Murray.
“In an office sweep I gave the program 15 weeks. Last week was program 20. We finish after 23.
“I lost the sweep.”

Anyone who follows politics will understand that segments of the news media like to play a significant role in polarising public opinion, creating headlines, and Sky News does not hold back with some of it’s conservative right wing narrative. Most of the Sky News regulars work on shock jock radio or like Andrew Bolt write for various conservative publications so Derryn must have had an ideological conversion whilst serving in the Senate.
He hasn’t had an ideological conversion he just was never right wing on all topics. Sometimes he was middle and some topics he was practically a left wing. But this apparently is no longer allowed. If you are right wing you have to be right wing about everything, same with the left otherwise you are considered a hypocrite. Humans are not consistent yet we expect public figures to behave like scripted characters.
Unfortunately for Derryn, I think he’s right. The news audience is polarised and will only watch shows where the presenter reflects their own views back to them.
His show rated poorly compared to the other evening shows didn’t it? That would have more to do with the cancellation I would think
Not right wing enough? Says he who voted with the Libs most of the time.
I suspect it was more about not wanting to block supply… dunno.
