Seven News Perth breaks Australian TV record

Already world record holders, Susannah Carr and Rick Ardon notch up another staggering record.

Seven News Perth has set an Australian record this week, recording a whopping 20 years of ratings wins in a row.

Perennial presenters Susannah Carr and Rick Ardon, currently joined by Basil Zempilas and Samantha Jolly, have won every week Monday to Friday since 2001, the year OzTAM commenced -an incredible crowning achievement.

In the COVID world of 2020, audiences have also grown across both weekday & weekend bulletins with Monday to Friday news increasing its 6pm audience by 13.2%, and 6:30pm by 27.2%.

The weekend line-up, anchored by Angela Tsun and Tim McMillan, has also increased Saturday audiences by 25.5% and Sunday viewers by 4.2%.

Seven News Perth News Director, Ray Kuka said: “Over the past 20 years, 7NEWS has delivered the most trusted and respected news to the people of Western Australia. More than ever before, people have a greater need for news that they can trust, and our growth this year is a testament to the team who continue to push themselves to bring the best news service to our loyal viewers. We thank viewers for their support.

“Rick and Sue are the faces Perth trust through the daily news routine to the times of crisis like we’ve seen during the global COVID-19 pandemic. They’re also backed by Perth’s most experienced reporters, like Geof Parry with over 40 years of experience, who never take being number one for granted.

“The team constantly delivers exclusive stories. In the past month alone, 7NEWS has reported the only interview with a shark attack victim, the fight for Perth property buyers robbed of millions, exclusive video of a whale attack in the Ningaloo Reef, and the incredible ongoing campaign for
driveway safety after the death of toddler, Aurora.

“This month is just one example of what has been reported to viewers, week in week out, over the past 20 years.”

Carr and Ardon have an incredible 35 years together -officially the world’s longest-running newsreading duo- while Basil Zempilas is campaigning for a seat as Perth Lord Mayor.

  1. Rick Ardon and Anne Wills were embedded in my eastern seaboard brain as mythical figures when they used to win those state-based Logies. So cool to see that they are real and still carving it up in their respective states.

  2. Congrats to everyone at 7 Perth. Basil has also been sports reporter for all of those 20 years of ratings wins (he joined in 2000).

In this age of saving money I don’t understand why Tim McMillan was added to the weekend bulletin. But that’s just me.

  3. Hearty congrats to the best team on the planet! I’m pretty sure they were winning prior to OzTAM coming online. The McNair/Neilsen days were good to them too!!
