Seven has locked onto December 23 for Carols in the Domain this year, which is being held indoors at Aware Super Theatre, International Convention Centre Sydney, due to COVID restrictions.
This will make it a back to back night of TV carols, with Carols by Candlelight the following night -I think that’s a first.
Hugh Sheridan, Penny McNamee, Todd McKenney and Rachael Beck will perform for Seven with more to be announced in coming weeks.
Seven Director of Network Programming, Angus Ross said, “2020 has been a challenging year, which makes traditions like Carols more important than ever. As the home to Carols in the Domain for almost four decades, Channel 7 looks forward to bringing some much needed Christmas joy to families right across Australia.”
The event is yet to confirm if audience tickets will be sold.
7.30pm Wednesday 23 December on Seven.

I am happy it is closer to Christmas….I usually watch 9s carols on Christmas day…the repeat…or Encore as such things tend to be called these these days.
Why the move to Wednesday? Does 7 have cricket on both the Saturday and Sunday?
Makes sense. I know on social media both carols get a bagging but I hope this year after what everyone has been put through we can just enjoy it and appreciate these singers giving up there time.
Well this sucks. I really liked the Saturday slot and I’ll be at work when this is on. I can and will tape it but it’s not the same.
Bah humbug 7!
I’m not sure my typing fingers will be able to withstand two nights of snarky tweeting in a row……
It’s a bit ridiculous if they are keeping the name Carols in The Domain this year when Domain is referring specifically to The Domain gardens in Sydney City (CBD). But it works on the basis of marketing alone because of the history of the event. I guess a title like Carols in the Convention Centre just doesn’t quite have the same ring to it.
I think COVID affords everyone a little flexibility.
Yes, absolutely. Flexibility has been one of the big themes throughout Covid.
I think Carols in the Domain is usually on the Saturday prior to Xmas. So this year’s edition – on a Wednesday – could be a first.
They have also done Sunday…. I don’t think ever back to back with Nine.
Held on Saturday 23 December in both 1995 and 2000 (thanks Wikipedia)
I love Christmas time! It’s going to be great to have back-to-back Christmas carols!
