ViacomCBS Aust / NZ announces Reconciliation Action Plan

ViacomCBS ANZ commits to more Indigenous content in 2021 and do more to promote reconciliation.

ViacomCBS Australia and New Zealand has announced its inaugural Reconciliation Action Plan in a commitment towards reconciliation with Australia’s First Peoples.

It aims to build meaningful relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, organisations, networks and education bodies. It will also promote reconciliation with internal and external stakeholders and within the media as a whole.

In the coming year, ViacomCBS Australia and New Zealand will also expand its NAIDOC and National Reconciliation Week activities and deliver content that champions the diverse histories of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

10 has already announced The First Inventors, a co-commission with NITV for 2021, hosted by Rob Collins.

Beverley McGarvey, Chief Content Officer and Executive Vice President, ViacomCBS Australia and New Zealand said: “As leaders in delivering and creating premium content for all Australians, we’re proud to use our voice to advocate a future of cultural understanding and inclusion with First Nations people, as well as leverage our platform to work towards Reconciliation.

“We have a responsibility to drive this change, not only within our own organisation, but within society.”

Karen Mundine, Chief Executive Officer, Reconciliation Australia said: “We are so pleased to welcome the first commercial free-to-air television network to become a partner in reconciliation through our Reconciliation Action Plan program.

“ViacomCBS Australia and New Zealand now join over 1,100 organisations with active RAPs generating economic and behavioural transformation with far-reaching, positive impacts. The RAP shows outstanding commitment from production through to recruitment, retention and professional development strategy.”

  1. What a progressive decision by 10/CBS.

I look forward to seeing more indigenous programming and talent on the air. There are plenty of deadly stories out there to be told.

    1. I think 10 is best placed of all the FTA operators. Great backers and wades of shows to draw from. Their decision not to spend heaps on sport may prove to be their saviour. Im looking forward to re-launch of All Access (Paramount Plus). This will give Netflix and Stan some dis-comfort.
