Nine & Foxtel drop Ellen’s final season

"We wish Ellen all the best for her last season," say Aussie broadcasters.

Ellen will just have to “be kind” somewhere else it seems…

The final season of The Ellen DeGeneres Show will be homeless in Australia when it begins in the USA in September, with neither Nine nor Foxtel acquiring rights.

A Nine spokesperson said, “The Ellen DeGeneres Show won’t be returning to Channel 9 for its nineteenth and final season. It’s been a tremendous run and we wish Ellen all the best for her last season.”

Foxtel has also confirmed to TV Tonight it will not screen on FOX Arena.

This follows negative press coverage and sliding ratings for the series, which will begin stateside on September 13 and conclude in 2022.

“When you’re a creative person, you constantly need to be challenged – and as great as this show is, and as fun as it is, it’s just not a challenge anymore,” DeGeneres recently told The Hollywood Reporter.

  1. Oh what? Is this still true so how can I watch the final season? I was just looking for it cos I have reloads it has started already
PS ch9 you still have Karl on the air

  2. Funny how 9 have moved swiftly on Celebrity IOU & it’s not on next week. I’m not always a fan or hugely familiar with the celebrities (including last season), but I learn about them and it’s feel good TV with actual Reno & I enjoy it!
It’s funny this isn’t rating, when the Block still does abd there is less Reno on it!
I hope Celebrity IOU airs on 94 (9Life) soon, where all the other US lifestyle airs

  3. Maybe Channel 9 really does have plans for a ‘Midday’ revival perhaps. Or they’re gonna stick with repeats of the previous night’s programming before airing their British-game-show-sandwich from 2-4pm. Probably going to turn out to be the latter I suppose.

    1. Kind of like the story of Neighbours but in reverse….flops on one station and bump it to another and works well.

I remember when Nine butchered the West Wing with poor timeslots and moving days..it took the ABC (wow) to pickup the final seasons and they owned it and rated really well
