SKY News presenters no-show at Senate inquiry

Senate inquiry around YouTube ban on SKY News is rescheduled for Monday.

SKY News presenters Alan Jones, Rita Panahi and Rowan Dean will not front a Senate inquiry on Monday.

In August The Australian reported all three would attend the original date of August 13, but media reports now claim they have declined an invitation.

Lachlan Murdoch has also declined, but SKY News CEO Paul Whittaker will attend the inquiry.

SKY News copped a 7 day upload ban from YouTube after breaching policies with videos that questioned the effectiveness of masks and lockdowns or promoted the use of hydroxychloroquine or ivermectin as treatments for COVID.

Committee chair Sarah Hanson-Young said, “There are a lot of questions for SKY boss, Mr Whittaker on Monday, and I look forward to hearing his explanation for how the original broadcast of dangerous disinformation and Covid lies was even allowed.

“The work of this inquiry will not be stifled by a lack of cooperation from News Corp and the committee will consider the refusal by Mr Murdoch and the presenters to appear as witnesses, once we hear from the Murdoch executive on Monday.”

Representatives from SKY News, YouTube/Google and ACMA were all called to attend.
