2021 US Critics’ Choice Awards: nominees

Nominees include Succession, Mare of Easttown, Ted Lasso, Hacks, It's a Sin, Pose, The Good Fight & Squid Game.

Succession tops the list of nominations in the 2021 Critics’ Choice Awards with eight nominations, including for Aussie Sarah Snook.

Other nominees include Mare of Easttown, Ted Lasso, Hacks, It’s a Sin, Pose, The Good Fight and Squid Game – the first non-English language series to score a drama series nomination (and also in best foreign language series).

Aussie Murray Bartlett is also nominated for The White Lotus.

Winners will be announced on December 13 (US).

I don’t see any surprises in the awards list though as (gasp) a non fan of Squid Game I feel that this Netflix series is included because of its cult following, however, Netflix do seem to be doing well this year with their nominations. Numbers of titles I still have not seen, like Dopesick, it has been a busy year for SVOD viewers in particular. Good to see ‘Call my Agent’ listed, this French show is to have an English version made I believe, but I’m not sure it will compare well, the French can do excellent satire using an equal measure of chauvinism and cultural cringe that other countries cannot match.
