Gallery: SKY News celebrates 25 years

More than 100 guests gathered to celebrate 25 years of news channel, after delays due to the pandemic.

SKY News celebrated 25 years  with a dinner at Bennelong Restaurant in Sydney on Wednesday night, attended by celebrities, personalities and politicians.

Siobhan McKenna, CEO-Broadcasting News Corp Australia and CEO Paul Whittaker hosted the function, previously scheduled in 2021 but postponed due to Covid restrictions.

British commentator Piers Morgan, who will front a new program in coming months, was amongst more than 100 dignitaries, including Scott Morrison and wife Jenny, Anthony Albanese, Dominic Perrottet, Co-Chairman of News Corp Lachlan Murdoch and wife Sarah Murdoch, former PMs John Howard and Tony Abbott, Josh Frydenberg, Tanya Plibersek, Michael Coutts-Trotter and Ministers Peter Dutton, Paul Fletcher, and Joel Fitzgibbon.

Also in attendance were Executive Chairman, News Corp Australasia Michael Miller, Herald & Weekly Times Chairman Penny Fowler, Foxtel Group CEO Patrick Delany; News Corp Editors Christopher Dore, Ben English, Mick Carroll, Sam Weir, Chris Jones, Edwin McCann and Lisa Muxworthy; Harvey Norman Chairman Gerry Harvey and CEO Katie Page; Crown CEO Steve McCann; Business Council of Australia CEO Jennifer Westacott; Racing NSW CEO Peter V’landys; AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan; NRL CEO Andrew Abdo & FOX Sports presenter  Matty Johns.

SKY News presenters included Peta Credlin, Peter Stefanovic, Paul Murray, Laura Jayes, Sharri Markson, Chris Kenny, Ross Greenwood, Andrew Clennell, Joe Hildebrand and new contributor Erin Molan.

Isaiah Firebrace, accompanied on the didgeridoo by Matthew Doyle, also performed.

SKY News began broadcasting on 19 February 1996, becoming Australia’s first 24-hour news channel.

  1. Sky news is an embarrasement to a lot clear thinking middle / apolitical people. I’m kind of central, slightly right orientated and I cringe with the blatant bias to the Far Right.
