Returning: Under Investigation with Liz Hayes

New 8 part series tackling crimes and mysteries returns next week.

Under Investigation with Liz Hayes returns to Nine next week, this season tackling both unsolved crimes and mysteries.

The 8 part series sees Liz Hayes moderate analysis and theories between forensic experts, homicide detectives, historians and scientists.

Coinciding with the Platinum Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation, Hayes’ Under Investigation team opens the season by analysing Operation London Bridge – the secret plan for the days after the Queen’s death and the crowning of King Charles III. Our experts ask if the monarchy can survive without her – or whether this will make Australia finally decide to become a republic.

Other mysterious cases to be examined in the new series include UFOs – which are being taken very seriously, by no less than the US military. The Pentagon has released extraordinary video shot by US Navy pilots – code-named UAPs (Unidentified Aerial Phenomena) – who have encountered dozens of these objects and verified their presence with hi-tech sensors. With bewildering flight capabilities and hypersonic speeds, UAPs are now considered a threat to America’s national security. The question is no longer are they real but where are they from? Included in the Under Investigation team is a senior US Navy pilot who encountered these UAPs and reveals an incredible eyewitness description.

On March 11, 2011, the Fukushima Disaster in Japan was the greatest setback to the cause of nuclear energy in modern times. For the eleventh anniversary of the catastrophic earthquake and tsunami that almost turned a power plant into a nuclear bomb, the Under Investigation team analyses what went wrong and whether it could happen again. And as Australia grapples with a coal-free future, our experts engage in a fiery debate, asking: Can nuclear energy ever be truly safe?

Plus, in a groundbreaking episode, Under Investigation reveals Australia’s worst serial killer, whose bloody trail of up to a dozen victims leads from Melbourne to Sydney – across the decades.

9pm Wednesday February 9 on Nine.
