WIN News reporter wins at Australian Pride In Sport Awards

Imogen Elliott awarded the 2022 LGBTQ Positive Media Award for reporting on a controversial bill for the transgender community.

WIN News Tasmania reporter Imogen Elliott (pictured right) was awarded the 2022 LGBTQ Positive Media Award at the Australian Pride In Sport Awards earlier this week.

Their award was based on reportage of Liberal Senator for Tasmania Claire Chandler’s Save Women’s Sport bill. Their coverage explored the significance of the bill for the transgender community and the implications for grassroots sport in Tasmania. Elliott’s questioning of Prime Minister on the issue attracted national attention.

“It was a fantastic, inspiring evening and all the finalists were incredible. I’d like to thank everyone who has supported me and my reporting,” Elliott said.

WIN News Tasmania News Director Alex Johnstonadded, “We’re enormously proud of Elliott and the award is thoroughly deserved. Elliott’s reporting has contributed greatly to an important national discussion on a contentious issue. Their work is always fearless but fair.”

Launched in 2008, the Australian Pride in Sport Awards acknowledges achievements around the inclusion of people with diverse genders and sexualities in Australian sport. The event officially recognises smaller clubs, LGBTQ community sport initiatives, coaches, role models, media outlets, and allies for their contributions to this space.
