Airdate: Roland Garros 2022

9GEM screens tennis action from Paris starting this Sunday.

The 126th edition of Roland Garros in Paris, starts this Sunday on 9GEM.

Calling the action will be Roz Kelly, Todd Woodbridge, Sam Groth, Jelena Dokic and tennis expert Brett Phillips.

Coverage commences at 6.30pm each night of the tournament and is also available ad-free, live and on-demand on Stan Sport, with select matches in 4K.

The red clay courts of Roland Garros will host the sport’s finest players. World No. 1 and defending champion, Novak Djokovic, is out to match 2022 Australian Open winner Rafael Nadal on 21 career Grand Slam wins and stop the Spaniard from claiming his 14th French Open title.

However, the men’s competition has rarely been hotter, with players like teen sensation and current world No. 6, 19-year-old Carlos Alcaraz, primed for his first Grand Slam victory. Alcaraz is in top form after beating both Djokovic and Nadal to win the recent Madrid Open.

New women’s world No.1 Iga Świątek, 20, from Poland, is chasing her second win at Roland Garros after winning in 2020.

The Australian men’s contingent is headed by Alex de Minaur who is ranked 22 in the world. Viewers will also be eagerly following our highest ranked female, Ajla Tomljanović, who made the quarter-finals at Wimbledon last year.

Sunday, May 22, at 6.30pm on 9GEM.

  1. Last year, Todd Woodbridge and the commentary team called the tennis from Australian studios. I wonder whether they will use the TCN or GTV studios for the Roland Garros. TCN is not available given that they have the NRL studios there, but I believe that they might present the tennis from Nine Melbourne studios (given that Melbourne hosts Aus Open).
