After the Verdict a return to drama for Magda

"Clearly my great comedy days are behind me so Drama was the only option," jokes Magda Szubanski ahead of Nine premiere.

When Magda Szubanski debuts in upcoming Nine drama After the Verdict it will mark a rare return to drama for her.

“Clearly my great comedy days are behind me so Drama was the only option. And if that fails I’m obviously screwed!” she recently joked.

“It’s interesting, I haven’t really been offered very many drama roles ever. So to have one written for me, where I get to exercise a very different muscle was really great. It was beautiful, playing opposite Virginia Gay …. and also some serious moments.

“I really love the premise of the whole thing, that you go in thinking that you’re going to find the truth and establish justice. But the rules of the legal game actually mean that it’s a very frustrating process and you come to a compromise. But what do you do with that? So I thought that was just a terrific premise. I loved it.”

The series also features Michelle Lim Davidson (The Newsreader), Lincoln Younes (Barons, Home & Away), Tess Haubrich (Wolf Creek) join the previously announced Sullivan Stapleton (Blindspot, Animal Kingdom), with Virginia Gay (Judy and Punch), Emma Diaz (Diary of an Uber Driver), Richard Brancatisano (Harrow), Nicholas Brown (Wakefield), Hazem Shammas (Safe Harbour, The Twelve) and Vivienne Awosoga (Wentworth).

Produced by Subtext Pictures it premieres 8:45pm Wednesday August 10 on Nine.
