Melissa visits Heronswood Garden, Joh learns about hand-knotting cheese and Pete finds the ultimate beach house.

This week on Better Homes & Gardens Melissa visits Heronswood Garden, Joh learns about hand-knotting cheese and Pete finds the ultimate beach house in Currumbin.

Johanna – The Family Whey
Technology is ever changing, propelling us forward, leaving a lot of the old ways behind. But one family is bucking the trend; three generations of one family, working together to carry on a tradition of hand-knotting soft Italian burrata cheese that originated in the southern Italian town of Conversano. This year will be Grandfather Vito’s 50th year in the business and Joh is there to meet the family and celebrate this achievement. After a quick look at how Vito and his family hand knot their popular and award winning burrata, Joh sits down with the family for a delicious lunch of cheesy family favourites.

Pete – The Ultimate Beach House
Architecture and the beach. Two things Pete loves the most. So, it’s no wonder he loves this amazing home at Currumbin on the Gold Coast. Surrounded by stunning beaches, thriving shops and a friendly community, this architectural marvel features light airy rooms and true inside/outside living. It really is the ultimate beach house!

Adam + Juliet – Spice Rack Lazy Susan
If you have a pantry with a corner, you know how hard it can be to reach in for that bottle of sauce at the back, knocking over all the other bottles on your way. So, Adam and Juliet show you how to make a Lazy Susan that looks great and will have all those bottles at your fingertips.

Karen – Tray-Baked Spicy Sausages, Potato & Tomato
For the dads who love sausages and potatoes, Karen’s got the recipe for you. The key to this tray-bake is getting flavour into the potatoes before putting the sausages on top. With a bunch of tomatoes, herbs and liquid flavours, this dish is very easy to prep and delicious to eat!

Fast Ed – Better Basics: The Art Of Fried Rice
Fried rice may seem like a simple dish to throw together when you just need to get dinner on the table… but there are some very important notes to follow if you want to nail that flavour and texture that your favourite local Chinese restaurant has mastered. Fast Ed will take you through each tip, including the wok you use, how our rice should be cooked, batch work, and the all-important sauce!

Fast Ed – Better Basics: Basic Butter Biscuits
With only 4 ingredients and 2 steps, butter biscuits are easy to make. But Ed will show you how to make the best butter biscuits that everyone will love! Plus… with a little extra inspiration, you can take this recipe and make several alternative treats, depending on what you fancy at the time. Some melting moments? A lemon curd tart? Or a simple almond shortbread. Get the kids involved and make this one of their favourites too.

Charlie – Springing Back In The Garden
As we slowly feel the grips of winter releasing and the temperature starting to rise, we know spring is at our doorstep. For the keen gardener this is an exciting time of year to see your creations flourish. Like anything in life maintenance is a must, so work needs to be done to get the most out of your garden. Charlie goes through a check list of garden maintenance jobs that will give your garden the spring it needs, as well as installing a couple of new plant varieties that are great for the warmer months.

Melissa – Tomato Time At Diggers
Heirloom edibles are a throwback to a time before mass agriculture. Fruit and veg the old-fashioned way, you might say. Heirloom tomatoes for example, come in all shapes and colours, not just the uniform red ones you’ll find in your local supermarket. Not only are they more colourful, but more flavourful too. At Heronswood Garden, Melissa is given a tour of their heirloom tomato collection and taught what types of eating each species is best for. But nothing beats eating a tomato that you’ve grown yourself, so Melissa will step you though the process of growing and caring for your very own delicious tomatoes!

Juliet – Clay Handle Holders
When you can’t find pieces to fit the interior style of the moment, there’s only one option left, make your own; and Juliet has done just that to sculpt some clay candle holders. With only a big blob of clay, a sponge and a little carving tool, Juliet creates stunning candle holders that look beautiful raw or painted. And by using air dry clay, there’s no firing of baking the clay involved, so it’s a great Saturday afternoon craft project for you and the kids.

Dr Harry – Sanctuary For Senior Dogs
Tonight, Dr Harry meets a couple with hearts of gold. For the past 16 years, this couple have been rescuing senior dogs that have been surrendered or abandoned in shelters or pounds and giving them a forever home. Here at the ‘Sanctuary for Senior dogs’, they provide a safe, permanent home for these golden oldies who have sadly ended up homeless at their most vulnerable age. Over the years, this generous couple have provided a loving home for over 60 senior dogs. After watching this, you might just be inspired to rehome an old dog yourself!
