  1. I’m genuinely surprised by this given that SBS had given up on producing episode-specific promos during season 2 (or hell, advertising the show at all towards the end of its run), and I gathered that SBS were quietly burning off the remaining episodes. Even more surprising is that they’re now putting it on a Monday night given how competitive it can be, and I don’t recall any episodes from the last two seasons cracking the top 20 in its Saturday night timeslot.

I’ve been quite vocal of my disdain for the new format and their choice of “celebrities”. I hope we have fewer “comedians” this time around given how bad they are at their jobs. Nevertheless, I’ll tolerate all kinds of terrible for David Astle (who often delivers the show’s strongest zingers) and of course Lily, but I was really losing interest during season 2.

And I’m only just learning that Lily is pregnant again. My best wishes to her and her family. <3

  2. The one big criticism i have about this show is everyone gets points for their words and it shouldn’t be that way because when it comes to the numbers, the same doesn’t apply. They need to make it like Cats does Countdown at least in terms of points scoring. Monday night though, thats a big change. Be interesting to see if there is a bump in the ratings.

  3. According to SBS online guide, the season 3 will now premiere Monday October 3. SBS’ live coverage of the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II means tonight’s regular programming has been pushed back by one week.

    1. They scheduled Lighthouses: Building The Impossible #2.3 for the 26th and Celebrity Letters and Numbers for Oct 3rd a week ago, when the Palace announced the time for the funeral. Their programming and PR depts need to talk to each other. Australia’s comics haven’t grown up with Countdown, like British comics, and their math skills are terrible. I can usually get enough points from the math rounds to make up for my poor ability at finding 7+ letter words.

  4. I like the show. I think if they had one or two regular enthusiast contestants alongside the celebrities, it could fulfil the more earnest side as well. Some viewers prefer the standard version, though it’s surprising that some celebrities, such as Susie Youssef, are incredibly intelligent and can easily compete with the regular winners.

There should also be a challenge to create words with the letter selections. If I were to be a contestant, I’d strategically choose consonants and vowels so that it spells a word on the letters list. 😆
