Better Homes & Gardens: Oct 14

This week, an All Abilities Netball team, and a retirement community where the locals are encouraged to have pets.

This week on Better Homes & Gardens Johanna learns about an All Abilities Netball team, and Dr Harry visits a retirement community in South East Queensland where the locals are encouraged to have pets.

Johanna – All Abilities Netball
For over 50 years Netball has been a major part of Luana Brock’s life and these days her biggest role in netball is helping people with intellectual disabilities play the game in a program called All Abilities Netball. Joh heads to Gippsland in Victoria to meet Luana and the people in involved with All Abilities Netball. But it’s not just on the court where Luana and her fellow volunteers help out, putting on stage shows to suit the abilities of each performer. To see the joy and confidence Luana and playing netball brings to the participants is sure to bring a smile to your face too.

Adam + Juliet – Festive Lighting Do’s & Don’ts
While front yard Christmas light displays are a fun way to spread holiday cheer, they always seem to be something other people do. But not this year! Adam and Juliet are going to show you how to set up and style a front yard and entryway, plus all the safety tips and tricks you need to know when setting up a large-scale light display. But they’re not just going to stop at lights, there’s Elves, Christmas Nutcrackers and even a giant inflatable gingerbread man! So, be the envy of your community with a front yard Christmas display that will blow the stockings of your neighbours’ fireplace!

Karen – Roasted Tomatoes with Pomegranate Molasses, Labna & Pita
Sure, you can hand around any old chips and dips at a party with friends and family, but if you really want to impress them, make sure you host the party after Karen has shown you how to elevate your dish to the next level. Sitting firmly in the exotic flavours of the middle east your guests are going to be sold on this delicious show-stopper alternative to the regular dip and chips.

Fast Ed – Garden Vegetable Tempura with Beetroot Hommus
Mixing Middle-eastern hommus and Japanese tempura with deep-fried seasonal vegetables, Ed’s making a Spring delight. This mixed-up dish is a great snack for when friends drop-by or even a meat-free option for the family. And by using seasonal vegetables, you’ll get better flavour, better nutrition and better prices.

Fast Ed – White Chocolate Custard with Blueberries & Melon
Ed’s all about seasonal produce and this dessert makes the most of the sweetest in-season fruit. Making your own custard is easier than it seems, especially when you follow Ed’s simple process. Pour the custard over a blueberry puree in a fancy cocktail glass and top with a variety of melon balls for a glorious, sweet treat dessert.

Charlie – Pots & Plants
Potted plants are a great way of achieving green spaces inside and outside the house. Whether you’re bringing the outside in, creating a green corner in the house or designing an outside space, potted plants are a great option. So, Charlie will use pots of different sizes amongst some ground plants to create depth and a sense of age and character in a small urban front yard.

Juliet – Console Of Continuous Curves
When Juliet transformed a front entry area under a set of stairs recently, a key part of the space was stylish console table. Now, Juliet will show you how she made it. Thankfully, it’s not difficult and Juliet also has a couple of little tips to style the console to really make it shine.

Daniella + Melissa Coastal Inspired Outdoors
Daniella’s found a home with an entertaining area that’s in need of some personality. With Melissa’s help, they create a relaxed, coastal inspired look, perfect for comfy dining or chatting with friends or simply having a meal with the family outside enjoying the spring weather. While Daniella takes care of the styling, Melissa adds some complimentary planting in large pots and plants out a potted combo of succulents and grasses. Child friendly and low maintenance…this space will tick all the boxes!

Dr Harry – Living Gems: Phone Howler
Tonight, Dr Harry visits a retirement community in South East Queensland where the locals are encouraged to have pets; which are great for our mental well-being, physical health and social engagement. But the peace and quiet of retirement is rudely interrupted when the phone rings at one residence and Buddy the Jack Russell howls his little heart out. It’s time for Dr Harry’s help to cure Buddy of his howling and restore the serenity.

7pm Friday on Seven / 7TWO.
