New US drama for Katherine Langford

Savage River star Katherine Langford was recently announced as the lead of a new US psychological thriller, The Venery of Samantha Bird.

The eight part drama by creator Anna Moriarty is being produced for Starz in the USA.

Langford will star as the title character who, while visiting family in New England, reconnects with her childhood sweetheart and falls headlong into what seems like a storybook romance. Underneath their fever dream, however, lurks a more unsettling interpretation of this affair. The series will explore addictive love and the repercussions that a relationship has on the families in a small New England town.

“The Venery of Samantha Bird is the perfect complement to our slate of provocative, immersive storytelling that leans into the female gaze,” said Kathryn Busby, president original programming at Starz. “Katherine is an incredible talent who will bring this modern romance of addictive love to life.”

Savage River co-star Virginia Gay recently told TV Tonight, “What an absolute talent that woman is. She’s a Golden Globe nominee, and rightly so. She is so good, and was an absolute dream to work with. She’s in nearly every scene and over a three month shoot that’s an enormous toll on your body and your psyche. She just came so prepared every single day, ready to lead us by just knowing what she was doing, asking smart question.

“Leadership is a really important thing when you’re when you’re number one on the call sheet. The way that she led us was really inspiring, and really beautiful. I hope she gets to lead many more things, because she was glorious.”

An Australian broadcaster is yet to be announced.
