Hit US comedy Ghosts has been given a third season by CBS.

The series follows a struggling young couple, Samantha, (Rose McIver), and Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar) whose dreams come true when they inherit a beautiful country house, only to find it is both falling apart and inhabited by many of the deceased previous residents.

The remake of the BBC comedy also features Brandon Scott Jones, Rebecca Wisocky, Richie Moriarty, Danielle Pinnock, Asher Grodman, Román Zaragoza, Sheila Carrasco, and Devan Chandler Long.

It is averaging 9.15 million US viewers, and over 11.5m with live +35-day multiplatform viewing, making it the #1 comedy series on Paramount+.

“This season, executive producers Joe Port, Joe Wiseman and the brilliant cast delivered episodes that far surpassed our expectations. From the opening of the Woodstone B&B to epic Halloween and Christmas episodes, we have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know our Ghosts even better. Much like our viewers, we love them more each and every week,” said Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment. “As the series continues to win fans on broadcast and streaming, we’re thrilled to bring back this touching and hilarious comedy for a third season.”

  1. Brilliant news! It’s a great show. I prefer the US version, but I tend to prefer US shows to UK ones in general, so that might explain my stance. 10 seems to be doing a good job of showing it regularly, which is promising. We’re only a couple of episodes behind the US now.

    1. They did confuse me by showing the Christmas episodes before a couple of other episodes, which I think they are now showing this week. I thought that I missed them.

  2. This is a better comedy version of an English spin-off Americans do that I prefer because only one of the eight ghosts in the Uk version (although I like and enjoyed Simon Farnaby being butler for QE11 and Paddington) is a “transplanted” character which is Scout, the American version have similar characters to the UK version that are more quirky like Thorfinn, Flower and Hetty. When Katy Wicks (Mary) left the episode they did to covering that wasn’t that great. Interested to see S5 of Uk version though. I remember how dreadful the American versions of Kath and Kim (it really was that bad in so many ways it gave me the vapours), Rake (close second to Kath and Kim) Getting On (2S..Uk 3S) and The Carrie Diaries just to name a few where, just goes to show some spin-offs, reboots and prequels etc are not always successful. But with entertainment to each is own.

    1. I’ve never watched the UK version, but how would they move forward if their character that can see the Ghosts is no longer in it?
That’s another thing. Usually their leads in US shows are on five year contracts. Not so for UK shows. Call the Midwives has now gone for years after their main character left at the end of season 3. But bizarrely that characters older self still narrates the show.

      1. The characters who can see the ghost are still in both versions. Allison in the Uk version and Samantha in the Us version. Regards CTM contracts or any other show I don’t bother with statistical information that’s for someone else to enjoy. I watch for the enjoyment entertainment provides on TV. Most important being plots, characters who come, go or stay, the period it’s set in, costumes, scenery and background music etc. that’s what steers the show.

          1. Yes in the Uk version she was Mary a witch trial victim played by Katy Wix (sorry I miss spelled before) who was also in Agatha Raisin TV Series as Gemma Simpson but in the delightful books (30 off +4 shorts) the show is based on that character is Doris Simpson a major character who is the cleaner and good friend and who looks after Agatha and her here cats. Cheers.

          2. Yes – one of the original ghosts (Mary) “ascended” (or was “sucked off”, to use the US terminology!) in Season 4.
