Better Homes & Gardens: Feb 24

This week Johanna and Charlie visit Granville Island Public Market in Vancouver.

On Better Homes & Gardens this week lucky Johanna & Charlie are still in Vancouver while Adam has a solution for a pesky mobile phone problem.

Johanna + Charlie – Flavours Of Vancouver
Vancouver, Canada is known for being on the edge of the great outdoors, its beautiful gardens and its food culture. So, tonight, Johanna and Charlie take you on a tour of discovery to tickle the tastebuds. The best place to do that is the Granville Island Public Market. From artisan breads, cheeses and Donuts to more local fare like Canadian game meats, this market has everything you could possibly hope for. And what artisan market in Canada would be complete without a selection of the finest maple syrups?

Adam – Two Legs Are Better Than Four
Whether you’re working from home, doing homework or you just need a place to do some life admin, then Adam’s going to build a stylish and practical desk for you. But the desk isn’t just trendy, it’s compact enough for smaller spaces. With only a few pieces of off-the-shelf timber panels and a couple of tools, this project is great for the budding DIYer.

Adam – Phone Holder Key Ring
You’re on a lunch break and you want to watch a video on your phone, but it just won’t stand up on its own and you can’t eat that sandwich and hold the phone at the same time. Well, this weekend you can easily build yourself a portable phone holder with just one small piece of timber and three cuts. Problem solved!

Fast Ed – Buttered Snapper with Rosemary & Capers + Peach and Watermelon Salsa
The beauty of Ed’s buttered snapper and salad dish is the simplicity. Since the snapper is treated with a gentle hand, this dish allows the salad’s bright colours and fresh flavours of late summer fruit and vegetables to shine through. It’s uncomplicated, delicious, and so easy you’ll barely consider it cooking. Less time in the kitchen means more time entertaining and enjoying the last sunny days of summer with friends and family.

Fast Ed – Smoky Lime-Glazed Barbecued Chicken With Corn & Pecan Salad
Is there anything better than glazed chicken on the barbecue? There are some tricks to getting a really tasty and sticky southern style glaze but with Ed’s help you’ll be elevating the chicken at your next party. But this chicken needs a side salad, so Ed will help you put together something a little different from the run of the mill garden salad. This dish has big promise and it delivers.

Graham – Love My Lawn
Imagine how dull a life without a lawn would be? No backyard cricket, no city parks, no picnics on a soft green carpet. No matter what a lawn means for you or how you enjoy your patch of green, Autumn is an important season for lawn care. From a tough buffalo to a softer couch, it’s time to talk turf and Graham has all the tips for growing a perfect lawn no matter what type of grass you have.

Melissa – Fabulous Fields Of Lovely Lavender
The love affair with lavender is long-lived and continues in full swing here at Bridestowe Lavender Estate in the North-East of Tasmania. Instantly recognisable by fragrance and sight, lavender is one of the most popular flowering shrubs. And seeing the rolling hills of it here at this farm, it’s easy to understand why. Melissa takes a tour of the farm to show you all things lavender from the never-ending fields to the factory to discover how lavender oil is made. But after learning so much, Melissa couldn’t leave without giving you a few tips to growing the best lavender at home.

Juliet – Faux Stone Bowls
Stone bowls are on trend right now, but they can get expensive. Avoid the high prices as Juliet shows how to make some super easy stone-look Pedestal Bowls to add some high-end style. This project only needs a couple of plastic bowls, tumblers and plates, which you’ve probably already got filling up a cupboard. Then you’ll only need to buy a few items like glue, primer and granite spray. Before long you’ll have elevated your décor and cleaned out the plastics cupboard; win win!

Dr Harry – Dogs On The Water
With so much coastline, it’s no surprise that boating is one of Australia’s favourite pastimes. More and more people are now taking their dogs with them, but you can’t assume your buddy will be a natural salty sea dog. So, if you want to take your best friend with you on your next nautical adventure, Dr Harry has all the safety tips so your family, including your dog, are safe on the water.

7pm Friday on ABC.

  1. Ah Granville. I staggered over on the ferry after a bender of a wrap party following the 2010 Winter Olympics and bought the best hamburger of my life there. Hangover cured!
