Most reality shows are about the contest, the endless, aggressive pursuit of winning the prize at all costs.
But last night Australian Survivor took a little time to smell the roses, when contestant Jordie Hansen learned he was having a baby boy.
Jordie’s partner just happens to be none other than former Bachelorette and Home & Away star Sam Frost, making her news to him all the more TV heaven.
In a video call from home at the Survivor auction, which he initially offered to Matthew -who was also expecting a child- Jordie learned the gender of his child with Sam Frost.
“Everything’s perfect,” she told him. “We’re having a baby boy.”
It led to tears all round and rivalries suspended for a most personal moment. And then it was back to the game at hand.
Nine also has a series on Mondays with Big Miracles in which hopeful couples learn if they have fallen pregnant through IVF.
This is too wholesome for us to handle 🥺 #SurvivorAU pic.twitter.com/FK6ae1ykRS

You guys are kidding, right? There has to be some reason for the audience to connect – or feel disconnected – from the participants and this happens with the humanising moments which give balance to the gameplay and whatever you decide makes them a good or bad player. Sure, I don’t give a stuff about babies personally but the generosity between members of two opposing tribes was significant and meaningful to show their depth.
This was a very beautiful moment. What great sportsmanship Matt showed in allowing Jordie to take the call! This is what Reality TV should be about!
This may be mean but ill say it lol… i hate when they do this on Survivor. I always mute the family calls. Its been a hot minute these should be at the end of a season only. (Even then I fast fwd through/mute lol) here for the game play only. Soz!
Usually agree when they all get emotional having been away from home for a couple of weeks, especially those opting to take two months out of their lives for the second or third time. This was well done though – the moment wasn’t so much the call but Jordie and Matt wanting to gift it to each other.
Agree, this is a cheap, manipulative tactic of the producers.
