Logies head to new home in Sydney

TV's night of nights to be held in Sydney on July 30, screening on Seven.

The 63rd TV Week Logie Awards will take place on Sunday, 30 July in Sydney on Seven.

It will be the first time in 37 years the event has been held in NSW. A venue is yet to be confirmed.

Seven West Media Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, James Warburton, said: “The time was right to find a new home for the Logies and bringing them back to Sydney after more than 30 years made perfect sense. Australia’s TV networks and many of its major production companies are based in Sydney and the city provides a backdrop for some of the country’s most popular TV shows.

“I’d like to thank NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet for his support in bringing the TV Week Logie Awards to Sydney. Seven has exciting plans for the Logies. They will be different, bigger than ever, spectacular and a great celebration of Australia’s love of television.”

The move follows Destination NSW pulling support for the AACTA Awards, which will be held on the Gold Coast in early 2024.

NSW Premier, Dominic Perrottet, said “Sydney is the best city in Australia and the home of our television and production industries, making it the obvious choice for the TV Week Logie Awards.

“Television’s night of nights now has its rightful home in The Harbour City, showcasing the glitz and glamour of our vibrant nightlife. This will inject millions of dollars into the NSW economy, creating hundreds of jobs in production, hospitality and events.”

Are Media Chief Executive Officer, Jane Huxley, said: “It’s so exciting to see the next era begin for the TV Week Logies, welcoming Seven as the official broadcast partner and with a new location for the illustrious awards night. The TV Week Logie Awards remains the most anticipated event of the year for the television industry as we celebrate the most popular stars and shows on our screens.

“We are delighted to continue our role as long-standing custodians of the awards and look forward to showcasing and celebrating Australia’s incredible TV talent for many years to come.”

The 63rd TV Week Logie Awards will be produced by the Seven Network, in association with ITV Studios Australia.

  1. I agree, the Logies should be at the start of the TV year mid-Feb, like the Emmys in the US are at the start of their TV ratings year in September. Having the Logies in July, it’s half way through the year yet seeing awards for shows that aired as much as a year and a half before the ceremony.

  2. Change of city no impact on me, change of network hopefully good – freshen things up hopefully, add more fun, humour clips (not a never ending procession of hosts walking out, reading auto cues and looking awkward.

Now needs a change of time. July is halfway thru year, the previous year is a distant memory. Bring it back to March (plus better weather for red carpet!!)

  3. If they want to bring it back to Sydney they need to bring it back to April when it used to be held for years. It’s too bloody cold in Sydney in July. Why would they leave the beautiful Gold Coast? Absolute madness.

  4. This years Logies will probably feel a bit different – with new network and city/venue. After being on Nine for so long, and in Melbourne for even longer (with a short stint in recent times at the Gold Coast).

Last years Logies, we saw for the first time that we weren’t given the chance to nominate our favourite shows and cast from a list of plenty for the public awards. Instead, “a panel from the industry” put in their nominations and we then chose the winners from that very short list. I hope it returns to an online voting system like previous years (vote for the nominees, then once the nominations are announce, we vote again for the winner). If it aint broke, then dont change it.
