Better Homes & Gardens: April 28

This week, it's Byron Bay homes, fitness gadgets and a cross between a cupcake and a lamington.

This week on Better Homes & Gardens, it’s Byron Bay homes, fitness gadgets and a cross between a cupcake and a lamington.

Dr Harry – Frank The Vacuum Destroying Bulldog
Two-year-old British Bulldog Frank is friendly, loving and an adorable family pet. But when it comes to cleaning the house Frank goes from cool, calm and collected to Frank the destroyer! He attacks the broom and mop and completely over-reacts to the vacuum, having destroyed one machine already. It’s become so difficult to do domestic duties, that on the day the cleaners come Frank has to go to doggy day care! Can Dr Harry find a solution to the cleaning chaos and Frank’s dilemma?

Johanna + Charlie – Hidden Gems (Casa Secretas)
Away from the hustle and bustle of Byron Bay and hidden in the hinterland are two exquisitely styled homes on one property, known as Casas Secretas, which translates as secret houses. Each with its own theme, one house is dark, moody, and rustic, the other is light and bright and evocative of a Tuscan villa, complete with Mediterranean-style courtyards. This is the story of two contrasting houses, surrounded by lush sub-tropical landscaping, with plenty of inspiration you could use at your place. These hidden gems are picture-perfect and just waiting to be explored by Joh and Charlie.

Adam – Stair Chair Or Chair Stair. You Decide
Is it a chair or is it a stair? That’s entirely up to you. Tonight, Adam shows you how to build a chair that can convert into a set of steps, with just a hinge. Utilising off the shelf materials, basic DIY techniques and a simple design, this is a project you could achieve this weekend. So, step up to grab that difficult to reach item, or kick back and relax on your new chair!

Karen – Spiced Pumpkin, Date, Almonds & Moghrabieh Salad
Over the last few years, the roasted vegetable salad has become the hero of your meal, not just a forgotten sidekick. With this in mind, Karen will show you how to elevate a simple vegetable like a pumpkin to be the shining star of your next salad. Combined with a middle eastern cous cous, nuts and a buttery dressing and you have a very tasty winner.

Fast Ed – Sweet Potato Waffles With Poached Eggs & Mint Peas
Ed may have cracked the code for the impossible meal. While it was designed as a morning tea, it can easily be eaten at breakfast, lunch, or dinner. And these waffles cater for everyone, being gluten free. It’s the kind of dish that seems like it might take some effort, but it’s actually far simpler than you might imagine. Some grating, some measuring, some mixing. And if you don’t have a waffle iron, you could just make them as pancakes.

Fast Ed – Jammy-Lammy
Sometimes you need a gluten-free alternative. And sometimes the gluten-free version is actually so much better that you’ll be a convert for life. Sweet cakes are perfect for a morning tea and Ed has your new favourite cupcake. A cross between a cupcake and a lamington, they’re super easy to make and oh so delicious. And being gluten free everyone can enjoy them!

Melissa – Life In The Slow Lane At The Micro Flower Farm
Like the slow food movement, the slow flower movement aims to promote local, sustainable and organic production of flowers. To learn more about this growing trend, Melissa visits a micro flower farm and talks to the owners, exploring the most colourful, beautiful and widest range of dahlias you’ve ever seen. Melissa also shares some tips for natural solutions to keep the bugs away and of course she couldn’t visit a flower farm without making a beautiful bouquet of her own.

Juliet – Personalise It
Love the idea of making your own customised keepsake books, personalised drink bottles or makeup bags that you’d normally only find online? Well, you’re in luck because Juliet will show you how easy it is to get the professional look by making a stencil for a Recipe Book cover, a permanent vinyl design to personalise drink bottles and a monogrammed iron-on for a cosmetic bag.

James – Connect To Your Fitness Goals
The saying goes, work smarter not harder. Well, this week James has some tech gadgets to show you how to work-out smarter. These gadgets will help you get started on your fitness journey and keep track of all the technical aspects, so you can focus on reaching your goals. While he’s at it, James will also touch on the importance of the recovery process and visit a therapy centre which specialises in a range of recovery and wellness experiences. He chats to the owner about what’s on offer and the benefits of these experiences, then things will get a little chilly as he tests out the Cryotherapy chamber.
