The Cheap Seats

  1. Not a fan of the show going down the route of casting reality veterans and influencers, though it did work out OK for the US version in the end. Hope they can change location – that was what really let the series down compared to the UK and US versions.

  2. Does this line up cement 10 as the ‘celebrity’ reality network, alongside IACGMOOH? Even the show with normal contestants (The Traitors) is getting a few actors and reality stars thrown in.

  3. I have mixed thoughts on all this – firstly, I’m so glad that all reality formats are returning! Really looking forward to the second season of Hunted, the first was spectacular and I think the second one will be even better!

I have mixed thoughts on the Celebrity Edition of The Amazing Race Australia. I’m super excited that the show is coming back (it’s my favorite show), but I’m a little apprehensive about the quality of “celebrities” that they’ll cast… I do hope the route and challenges are amazing though!

Again with The Traitors, I’m also in two minds – I’m glad it’s coming back again (the show was a highlight last year) and again I’m apprehensive about the “celebrities” they cast. As long as they’re entertaining, it’ll be grand!

  4. Would prefer a regular version of The Amazing Race. Sure you can have some well known people cast, as we’ve seen on Survivor with former AFL & NRL players, plus former actors, cast at times. Same with US versions of the shows, but those seasons aren’t singled out and highlighted as all celebrities (apart from the Social Media edition of US TAR).

  5. Great idea with The Amazing Race: Celebrity Edition. I have once before they should get celebrities on this show. I can’t wait to see who signs up. Also can’t wait for The Traitors, Thank God You’re Here and The Masked Singer.

  6. Looking forward to the return of The Cheap Seats and Have You Been Paying Attention. Not thrilled to see The Amazing Race going with celebrities, but maybe it’ll give the show a boost in the ratings. The same goes for The Traitors, though at least it will be a mix of celebrities and real people.

  7. Yes, can’t wait for it all! Happy about a celebrity version of Tara, note that the word celebrity means a well known person.
Loving all these reality shows! Bring it on

  8. While a “celebrity” version of the Amazing Race Australia is not ideal, if people are calling for “normal” competitors, and the “celebrities” are people you’ve never heard of, doesn’t that then make them “normal” people? The relative success of I’m A Celebrity indicates that people don’t care how famous the celebrities are. I’m just glad it’s coming back, I don’t really care who’s on it.

      1. A celebrity is not a new concept, back in Ancient Greece athletes were welcomed as hero’s, they had songs and poems written about them for free food and gifts from those seeking “celebrity” endorsements just like today. According to Greg Jenner an historian in his book Dead Famous he maintains a celebrity is a unique persona made widely known via the public media coverage, whose life is publicly consumed and whose commercial brand is made profitable for those who exploit there popularity and….perhaps themselves. And as John Lennon nailed being a celebrity….”we are more famous than Jesus” 😂

  9. No, no, no, no, no TARAU! Australia doesn’t have celebrities. It’s going to be the same washed-up nobodies. After the disaster of last year’s season, this is really going to put the nail on the coffin. Australia doesn’t care or want this. The US season’s started declining after introducing a few “z-lister” celebrity teams. We want a normal TARAU with normal people. We don’t want faux influencers, d grade retired AFL players who nobody knows about or lame radio hosts (we all listen to Spotify now). This is upsetting. Channel 10 just can’t seem to get it right.

    1. You mean you don’t want it. Don’t put all of us in your opinion. I’m happy to have a celebrity version, something different on Tara, can’t wait.

    1. Agree 100%. As soon as I see “celebrity” in a title it’s a hard miss for me. An unknown (to NSW) ex-AFL player, an ‘influencer’ ex-MAFS or some other ‘reality’ show(s), a ‘socialite’, all totally unknown to me, a radio announcer I have never heard of or listened to. Corby?

  10. Love The Amazing Race but not interested in a celebrity version. They are trying to ruin the franchise like they have with all the celebs & returnees on Survivor AU.

      1. I have watched – I enjoyed American Traitors and it’s Reality Stars vs Normals cast. But compared to the British season (also on 10play, all normal cast) and the first Aussie season (also all normal cast), the US show was the least enjoyable.

  11. The Amazing Race Australia brand has been so badly tarnished with such stupid concept changes, ultra long episodes, so many episodes, intruders, and now they are damaging it further with a celebrity edition? And of course it’ll be the same unknown to the rest of the country Sydney radio hosts, retired AFL players, and channel 10’s usual list of on-screen employees.

  12. I’ve been watching the US Traitors which is half populated by previous reality show contestants and this casting does spoil the show a little as some of the cast know, or about, each other. This was one of the strengths of the local version where everyone was a stranger and could strategically hide their real identies. Unfortunately it sounds like 10 are heading down a similar casting route which is a shame.

  13. In my book that roster of shows is incredible and far outweighs anything we know Nine and Seven have lined up. I am dubious about the Celebrity edition of the Amazing Race though, it reeks of desperation… that’s the only thing in there that I’m tentative about. I don’t watch MasterChef, Masked Singer or Hunted but I know all are produced well and have their fans. If this was Seven or Nine, this lineup would look unassailable. But this is Channel Ten, so we will be left wondering which shows will have the axe hovering over them by years end…

  14. TARA needs to get back to basics and not be like the last season which was far too easy and overall boring. They should look at the American version that was on in 2022 which was back in fine form with every leg being an elimination. That’s how you bring the race to a good dramatic tense episode each week.

    1. I understand not enjoying last season of TARA, but TAR USA was arguably even worse. Sure they had eliminations each leg, but the show felt incredibly inane to watch with challenges that were significantly easier than TARA with a limited route and an even more boring cast. Could not get through that season at all.
