This Friday on Seven, indoor gardening, budgies and broccoli.

This week on Better Homes & Gardens, indoor gardening, budgies and broccoli.

Johanna – Mad For Mushrooms
Does it get any better than a fried mushroom with some garlic and butter? Yes actually! With boiled mushrooms. While we’ve been taught not to boil mushrooms, Johanna talks to a man who has made a career out of doing just that. A chef turned mushroom scientist; Jim knows what he’s talking about. He takes Johanna on a forest tour in search of these fun little guys, before going back to his home and lab, where he cooks and conducts experiments on mushrooms to get the best taste and texture from fungi. There, he’ll show Joh how to create the tastiest “bacon” and “meaty” burgers without having to use any meat at all.

Adam – Vanity Fair
Bathroom vanities can be expensive and may not quite fit the space around it. When you make it yourself however, you not only save money, but you get the exact look you want, and get it to fit perfectly in its surroundings. Adam’s going to make a modern, floating-style vanity featuring plenty of practical storage and even a hidden toilet roll holder. Using off-the-shelf form plywood, Adam builds the carcass with just one sheet, but it’s the Tassie cladding that gives this bespoke, floating vanity an expensive look and feel.

Karen – Carrot, Gruyere And Herb Loaf
If a savoury loaf is as popular at your house as it is at Karen’s, then her Carrot, Gruyere and Herb Loaf won’t last long. With just a handful of yummy ingredients ranging from carrots to sherry, it’s super easy to make, and can be served hot or cold and either on its own or as a great accompaniment to roast pork or chicken.

Fast Ed – How does broccoli grow?
As one of Australia’s favourite vegetables, most of us are picking broccoli off the supermarket shelves, but do you know how they are actually picked? Where they come from? Tonight, Ed visits a broccoli farm in Queensland where the family have been farming for 100 years, and discovers all there is to know about this delicious vegetable. And soon, you will too.

Fast Ed – Caramelised Broccoli
If you haven’t barbecued broccoli before, it’s time to rethink what you’re going to grill at your next get together. Most people like to steam or boil it, but it’s barbecuing that really takes it to the next level. While barbecued broccoli is great on its own, it goes even better as an accompaniment and at this time of year a leg of lamb fits the bill to warm you up on a cold winter’s day.

Charlie – Plants For The Aussie Climate & How To Plan Your Garden
From fire to floods, heatwaves to cold snaps, many parts of Australia can often experience this wild, harsh and sometimes extreme weather. As we look froward to more uncertain climate conditions, how can we protect our back gardens so we can enjoy spending time out there? Don’t fear, Charlie’s touring a nursery who are breeding plants for these tough Aussie conditions. But he’ll also then plant out a garden with these tough plants to show you the best way to get the most out of your garden.

Melissa – High Tech Horticulture For The Home Gardener
No matter how skilled you are in the garden, we are all guilty of neglecting our indoor plant friends at some point in our gardening journey. With that in mind, Melissa has found some great tech to help teach the ways of indoor gardening. She’ll show you how to keep your plants alive, even when you’re away from home. And to top it off, Melissa has some great tips that will keep your plants looking lush and full of life.

Juliet – Bathe Matte & More
Bathrooms are expensive, so you want to get them right the first time around. Juliet’s going to renovate a very 80’s style bathroom which has two big problems. Not only are the brown walls and red tiles not a great look, but the badly designed layout makes it awkward for adults to use and dangerous for little kids. Unfortunately, Juliet can’t increase the size of this tiny bathroom, so clever design is the key to making the most of this space and something that will suit a family with little kids who still need to use a bath. With her eye for beautiful design, Juliet will make this a contemporary space that does something the original never did, stand the test of time.

Dr Harry – Aussie The Budgie Battler
Native to Australia, Budgerigars are one of the world’s most popular pets, and one of Dr Harry’s personal favourites! Not only are they low maintenance and easy to tame, but they’re also intelligent, can learn to talk and make great companions too. Tonight, Dr Harry meets Natasha and her Budgie ‘Aussie’. Sadly, Aussie has some health issues that Natasha is hoping Dr Harry can help her with. Hang in there Aussie – the doctor is coming!

7pm Friday on Seven / 7TWO.
