Renewed: The Conners

US sitcom heads to a sixth season in the US but is nowhere to be seen in Australia.

US sitcom The Conners has been renewed for a sixth season with 13 new episodes, and an option for nine more.

The news follows a Season 5 finale which drew 3.6m US viewers earlier this month.

The ‘spin-off’ of Roseanne stars John Goodman as Dan Conner, Laurie Metcalf as Jackie Harris, Sara Gilbert as Darlene Conner, Lecy Goranson as Becky Conner-Healy, Michael Fishman as D.J. Conner, Emma Kenney as Harris Conner-Healy, Ames McNamara as Mark Conner-Healy, Jayden Rey as Mary Conner, and Jay R. Ferguson as Ben.

But its broadcast in Australia continues to go wanting, with 10 Peach having screened Season 3 in mid 2021.

A 10 spokesperson told TV Tonight in late 2022, “The Conners is not planned to come back anytime soon.”

  1. Very frustrating that this series is unavailable for enjoying in 🇦🇺 Australia. Pay for so very many Aussies streaming ‘services’ and this is what subscribers receive! Irrational. I can sort of understand it not being on free-to-air due to the cancel culture. Perhaps I should Re evaluate/drop Paramount plus sub. as part of my rationalisation.

  2. The Connors is commissioned by ABC but produced at WB studios. ABC owns the rights in the US and Germany, Sky in the UK and Paramount here. It’s not clear who is doing the international distribution. Neither ABC or WB had output deals in this country at the time. What we know is that Paramount have no plans to air anymore episodes and pay the broadcast fees, and nobody else wants to buy them of Paramount. The reason the networks buy so many repeats is that these days they rate as well as new episodes of US shows, but cost less and can be bought in large blocks. Perfect filler. The WGA strike adding uncertainty isn’t helping.

    1. The original Roseanne was a viacom show (therefore Paramount) but that’s nowhere to be found.

At least in the old days of output deals you had a good chance of seeing a good show or of America, now that everything seems to be a la carte we are just served cookie cutter dramas all chasing the same audience.

I for one would love to watch this show and I certainly watched it when I knew it was on

      1. Roseanne is nowhere to be found because Roseanne Barr is still persona non-grata with ABC. Hence why Season 10 has never been made available for purchase.

  3. Being an ABC show in the US, it should ultimately land on Disney+ in Australia, you’d think they’s want to add it to increase overall viewership. Either way, 10 should be airing it on 10Peach or the very forgettable 10Shake to replace endless reruns.

  4. 10 really need to play this if they have the rights otherwise release it for someone else to show.

Or as per other comments just add it to Paramount +, it could provide or hold a few subscribers.

  5. I can’t believe shows like this aren’t on streaming if FTA aren’t picking them up.
It still just drives illegal viewings.
I thought Disney getting the Simpsons first run wouldn’t been good but they do new episodes very sporadically.

  6. Programming must be such a challenging job. All networks have a stockpile of first run shows sitting on the shelf and yet they insist on looping multiple episodes of Frasier/Big Bang/King of Queens etc daily. Surely one screening could be replaced with something “new” and not impact the ratings.
