Better Homes & Gardens: June 6

Surprise! Seven is making the unusual move of its lifestyle show screening on Tuesday this week.

In an unexpected scheduling move, Seven is screening this week’s episode of Better Homes & Gardens on Tuesday.

This appears to be part of the fallout of pulling Blow Up from its schedule after two episodes. Hopefully there is no reference to “Friday” in any of the dialogue?

On Friday night it will be repeated in its usual slot.

Johanna – Design for the Future (Lune De Sang)
Tucked away in the Byron hinterland is an ambitious project with a (very) long-term plan. Andy and Deirdre Plummer have not only built themselves a pretty spectacular home, but they’ve also rehabilitated a clapped-out old cow paddock by planting over a hundred and twenty thousand trees, some of which won’t mature for another three hundred years. But first, Johanna tours their amazing home that’s been designed specifically for the way they live. This architectural marvel also sports two sheds, but these are like no other backyard sheds you’ve ever seen. In every way, Lune de Sang is an extraordinary endeavour.

Adam – Baby Bored? Not Anymore. Busy Baby Board!
Busy boards are a great sensory activity for babies and learning activity for toddlers through preschool. There are so many benefits of busy boards including independent play, self-esteem, and concentration. Made up of a series of items attached to a board, they impact all a kid’s senses, although hopefully not taste! They teach practical life skills, hand-eye co-ordination and even finger strength that are essential for tasks like buttoning clothes and using utensils. And if it’s a product that can be made by a DIYer, then you know Adam’s not only going to give it a shot but make it cool and fun.

Karen – Chia, Banana and Oat Milk Puddings with Maple-Blueberry Compote
There’s a reason you see Chia seed pudding on breakfast menus all over the country. Not only are they incredibly delicious, but they’re good for you as well, loaded with protein, antioxidants and fibre. The best part is they’re incredibly easy to make, with just a blender as your only tool. You can keep them really simple or dress them up with some yummy fruit. This is a breakfast that Karen guarantees will put a pep in your step.

Fast Ed – Roast Chicken with Winter Vegetables and Lemon Butter
Is there anything better than roast chicken with the family at this time of year? There is if the recipe is prepared by Fast Ed, who’s going to make this the best roast chicken ever! Ed thinks there are never enough veggies in a roast, so he’s going to get more in the oven and have the chicken so succulent and tender it will fall off the bone. If you haven’t been able to achieve that with your roasts before, Ed has will teach you a simple change to your technique.

Charlie – Evolving Backyard: Week One
With the cost of living going up and stretching household budgets, you may not have as much money to transform your back garden as you once did. So, Charlie will transform the one backyard three times with the budget increasing each time to show you what you get for various levels of spend. And of course, there’ll be lots of cost saving tips along the way. In this first week, a plain, square backyard is given the least expensive makeover; adding edging, plants and steppingstones to give it some interest. Next week, the budget goes up and so does the garden.

Melissa – Succulents, Topiary-Style
From echeverias to crassulas, from sempervivums to sedums, the wonderful world of the Succulent is a diverse group that are ever so popular. They have the reputation of being easy plants, but what do they need to thrive? And how can you get beautiful bang for your hard-earned buck? Melissa will show you how to multiply your succulents in a matter of weeks and has a great project in mind to take your succulent collection to the next level, the succulent topiary-style ball!

Juliet – Painting with Scissors
Combining colour and simplicity with inexpensive paper cut-outs could form the basis of your new home decorations. Made famous by French artist Henri Matisse towards the end of his illustrious career, these collages can be as simple or as complex as you’d like to make them. And made possible with just a pair of scissors and some cardboard. It couldn’t be easier.

Dr Harry – So You Want to be a Zookeeper?
Ever wondered what it’s like to be a zookeeper? Follow Dr Harry on a trip to the new Sydney Zoo and find out. He’ll show a bunch of young recruits what it’s like to look after the extraordinary animals that call the zoo home. From feeding a young sugar glider, to making parcels that the baboons use as mental stimulation as well dietary sustenance. But it’s not all fun and games, there’s the serious business of mucking out enclosures, preparing beds and even feeding the bigger animals. So, if you’re an animal lover, come along for this amazing opportunity to find out what it’s like to be a zookeeper!

  1. Seven is showing BH&G on Tuesday this week, because of its live coverage of ICC World Test Championship between Australia and India from London. The Friday repeat will be on 7TWO in all states.

  2. Suddenly your ratings reports this Wednesday morning become very interesting.

Amanda Keller will have her fingers crossed for a positive result.
