Gladiators set for 10 in 2024

Beau Ryan and Liz Ellis to host revival of campy, arena battle 15 years after it was last seen on television.

10 has confirmed a Gladiators reboot for 2024 to be hosted by Beau Ryan and Liz Ellis.

The show recently opened for casting by Warner Bros. Australia.

A press release states, ‘Premiering in 2024, a new tribe of 21st century superhumans – the Gladiators – will wrestle, rumble, and battle brave Aussie Contenders from all walks of life, in the ultimate test of speed, strength, stamina, agility and power. In true David vs Goliath fashion and against the breathtaking backdrop of a brand-new gladiatorial arena, the Gladiators and Contenders’ skills will be tested like never before, as they take part in a series of brand-new events, alongside classic challenges including fan-favourites; Hang Tough, Duel, The Wall, Power Ball, Pyramid and The Eliminator.’

The campy original ran for 3 seasons from 1995 – 1996 on Seven hosted by Kimberley Joseph, Mike Hammond and Aaron Pedersen.

A short-lived 2008 reboot hosted by Tom Williams and Zoe Naylor included Tatiana Grigorieva, Tiffiny Hall and Anthony Koutoufides.

New host Liz Ellis said: “I am super pumped to be hosting Gladiators with Beau who is in the gym as we speak trying to match it with our Gladiators.

“It’s an iconic franchise and I’m excited about the reboot. It is set to showcase some of my favourite Gladiator challenges from the original series as well as throw up a few new ones for us to fall in love with!”

Beau Ryan added: “I am beyond excited to be hosting Gladiators alongside the great Liz Ellis. Liz is a national treasure, and we are going to have a lot of fun. I grew up watching and loving Gladiators and can’t wait to get into it. It’s going to be spectacular.”

Gladiators is made for Network 10 by Warner Bros. International Television Production and executive produced by Johnny C. Ferraro and Barry Poznick. The original Gladiators series was created by Johnny C. Ferraro and Dan Carr and produced in association with Flor-Jon Films. Gladiators is distributed by Amazon MGM Studios Distribution.

  1. Inclusivity, never really includes young over old does it? I’m sure these guys are lovely, and Ten are better than most, but why do we have so few young hosts on TV? Even when opportunity arises to try new talent?

  2. Beau Ryan, oh no he was the reason I couldn’t watch The Amazing Race, and the ratings plummeted last season, he just doesn’t have that TV host aura about him, he is a footy player and a bit like ‘OMG Bro look how good I am and how good do I look. Liz is a good choice though! I

  3. Is Beau Ryan married to someone from 10? Seriously the luckiest guy to ever grace a TV screen. I switched off The Amazing Race largely because of him. Sigh.

  4. So with the Gladiators revival, I wonder if they could use ex-Ninja Warrior contestants for Gladiators? I was thinking about Olivia Vivian for Gladiator.

  5. Looking forward to this as it was a great show, when programmes were fun and not just bitchy reality as all there seems to be now. Also not pushing any agenda just physical effort.

  6. There was an It’s a Knockout revival in 2011. That’s another show that could be revived with the right timing.

Gladiators is a very dominant brand globally. The host casting is very good. Though a major factor, which I think could be overlooked when it comes to revivals is the timing. Is the timing right for revival?

Programs or shows can be shelved for being too overexposed as well. So I think timing is a big factor. Does the timing feel right? Is there demand at the time? Are the statistics showing that people are into a particular fashion, lifestyle and recreation at present? Are certain things coming back into fashion? Are people talking about overseas versions? If yes, then there could be consideration for a revival.

    1. It’s a knock-out wasxa terrible revival it wasn’t even state based instead it was McDonald’s all stars viv paramedics etc… nothing could beatvoriginal where suburbs from each state compete
