Darren McMullen makes generous gesture in Amazing Race finale

It's a three-way tie in what may be an Amazing Race first.

This may be a world first.

Last night in The Amazing Race Australia: Celebrity, Darren McMullen and nephew Tristan reached the finish mat first -but chose to wait for the remaining two teams to all hit the mat together and share the $100,000 prize.

It was a generous gesture from McMullen to ensure three charities would take home cash winnings.

After a gruelling final leg of the Race in Kuala Lumpur, Darren and Tristan reached the mat first, but before jumping on the mat, Darren told host Beau Ryan that they had decided to wait for the other two teams so all three charities could have a share of the prize. Aww.

That meant waiting for Singer Alli Simpson and mum Angie, former Wiggle Emma Watson and sister Hayley. Linked arm in arm, all three teams hit the mat at the same time, which saw all three teams win, and the flood gate of tears open.

Ultimately, a nice way to end what is often a fierce competition.

This season has performed well for 10 and has been given a renewal for 2024.

  1. I was so against a celebrity TARA but once the fat got trimmed from the first half of the season, this turned out to be superb and I loved all of the to-five or six teams equally. I had a massive lump in the throat when Emma and Hayley were thanked in sign for their dance performance; Teddy and Harry’s big-brotherly love for Cor; Tristan’s doey eyed wonderment at the world… There were so many great moments and wonderful cast members. And yeah, I was bawling for the final mat jump. Bravo to the TARA team. I hope they return to regular contestants next season, though.

  2. Absolutely loved this ending and the whole season actually! Was a beautiful thing that Darren & Tristan did and it obviously meant so much to Emma, Hayley, Alli and Angie. Definitely looking forward to next season but also love the non-celebrity version as well…

  3. I have a newfound respect for Darren.
    What a lovely kind gesture.
He came across at times as super intense and overconfident, wanting to win at all costs.
So his kind gesture pleasantly surprised me. Darren is actually a nice guy after all.

  4. I had been really hating Darren during this show as he acted like a d*** half of the time. I wanted anyone but him to win & then he does this. What a beautiful, selfless thing to do. My only complaint is that they had the final leg overseas & not back home so we didn’t get the eliminated contestants there to welcome them to the finish line just some random locals.

    1. I totally agree with all your statements. It was especially hard not hating Darren after seeing him play such an evil character on Heat which was on the during the series as well.
