Production underway on Austin

Michael Theo from Love on the Spectrum makes his acting debut alongside Ben Mill and Sally Phillips in ABC comedy.

Filming has begun in Canberra on Austin, an new eight-part narrative comedy series for the ABC.

Produced by Northern Pictures, Austin stars UK performers, Ben Miller (Bridgerton, Death in Paradise) and Sally Phillips (Veep, Bridget Jones’s Diary), along with  Gia Carides (My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Big Little Lies) and Roy Billing (Jack Irish, Underbelly).

Making his acting debut is Michael Theo, the breakout star of the ABC’s international hit series Love on the Spectrum.

Austin will air on ABC TV and ABC iview in 2024.

When much-loved children’s author Julian Hartswood (Ben Miller) inadvertently causes a social media storm, his career and that of his illustrator wife Ingrid (Sally Phillips) appears to be over. That is until Austin (Michael Theo), the neurodivergent son that Julian never knew existed, turns up out of the blue. Could embracing this modern nuclear family be Julian’s route back from cancellation? Will Ingrid forgive him for being such a pompous shit? One thing is for certain: if Julian thinks Austin is going to be a push over, he’s in for a rude awakening.

  1. Upright, Bump are great titles. The Newsreader is not as good. Even the producers have acknowledged that Fisk has been a hard sell just on the title. I don’t even know what Warren is. lol.

If you read the description of the show it makes sense what else would you call it ‘my neurodivergent son that I didn’t know existed’ show …… Remember we have shows called Fisk, Warren, Upright, Bump, The Newsreader, Aftertaste where none of these titles clearly gave away the story how or the name did effect their success

        2. “Austin” is a suitable name for a person…we have Austin Butler…. Austin Swift (Taylor Swift’s brother).. Austin Nichols just to name a few and they are actors…I doubt people will associate the name with the town or cars….when the description is very clear..if you read the comment by tolliver333 that is a very logic point….but more importantly regardless of the name …I just hope it is a successful show for Michael Theo…because he is giving acting a go and that is to be commended.
