The Bachelors 2023: meet the cast

3 guys, 24 women and a new romantic backdrop in 10's 2023 season.

The Bachelors returns to 10 for a second season with suitors, Wesley Senna Cortes, Ben Waddell and Luke Bateman.

According to 10, ‘This season promises to deliver triple the sparks, triple the butterflies, and triple the jitters, in the most romantic season yet.’

Hosted by Osher Günsberg, this season was also filmed in Melbourne for the first time, produced by Warner Bros. International Television Production Australia.

“I am thrilled to once again be a part of Australia’s favourite love story, and even more stoked that Melbourne will be the backdrop for the most romantic season we’ve ever made. The guys are so great, and the ladies who have chosen to be a part of this are powerful, smart women who aren’t afraid to find the love they came to find,” he said.

Luke Bateman (pictured top left)
A former athlete, ‘Luke the Lumberjack’ is a proud self-proclaimed softie. He wears his heart on his flanny sleeve and often wells up at the slightest sentimental moment: a heartfelt ballad, a cherished family memory, or a touching rom-com. With close-knit roots in country Queensland, Luke has a deep bond with his family and works alongside them in the forestry trade. Once a professional NRL player for the Canberra Raiders, Luke experienced the highs of his dream life, before a knee injury brought it all crashing down. His path continued to veer off track following a heartbreaking split with his fiancée in 2019, leaving him devastated and navigating, what next? Now, Luke is on a mission to find a down-to-earth partner with a great sense of humour, someone who has their life together and is ready to make sacrifices for long-term happiness. His dream is to have at least three children and pass on his love of sport to his little ones. Luke’s journey to love is marked by resilience, personal growth and a sincere desire to find a forever relationship. Luke said: “This is the opportunity of a lifetime, and I’m feeling all the first date nerves – dialled up to 11. I’m looking for a partner who I can build and share a life with, a genuine person who makes me laugh and wants to start a family.

Ben Waddell (pictured top centre)
For over a decade, Ben has travelled the world as a successful model, but it’s his work as a sustainability entrepreneur that really excites him. As an impact investor, Ben helps eco-friendly startups protect the environment and build better futures using renewable energy. You might think Ben has it all – but there’s one thing missing. After 12 years in New York city, Ben has returned to his hometown of Melbourne in search of true love. Ben craves a partner who shares his zest for adventure and desire to leave the planet a better place than they found it. While discussing his feelings is not Ben’s safe space, he’s determined to open his heart, find his soulmate, and build a life filled with global exploration, kids and marriage. For Ben, the time is now and he’s searching for that special someone to embark on the journey of a lifetime. Ben said: “It’s such a surreal experience to take part in the new Bachelor series, and while I feel incredibly lucky it’s also very daunting. I’ll be going in with an open mind and open heart to find the girl of my dreams.”

Wesley Senna Cortes (pictured top right)
Bringing the Brazilian heat is Wesley. Wes has a deep commitment to finding true love and upholding the values he was raised with. Throughout his dating life, Wes has struggled to move beyond the initial phases, often finding it hard to establish a lasting connection with someone who shares his vision of “The One.” Born and raised in the vibrant culture of Brazil, Wes faced the hardship of his parents’ divorce during his teenage years. When his pastor father moved to the United States, it became challenging for Wes to maintain a close relationship with him. Tragedy struck when Wes lost his beloved mother to breast cancer at 45. This profound loss left an indelible mark on Wes, strengthening his faith and deepening his appreciation for the importance of love and family. Wes is on a quest to find the girl who will transform his life. His journey is guided by a steadfast belief in the power of love and a longing to build a meaningful and lasting connection. Wesley said: “It’s a huge honour given what the show means to Australia, but also to represent my culture. It’s not every day that you have such an incredible team helping you find love. I couldn’t be more excited.”

What’s the biggest obstacle you’ve had to overcome in your life?
Being a second-generation South Asian Australian girl who is trying to live the life I desire but\ understanding that my family and culture have different expectations. It’s hard to find a balance that works so that is the biggest obstacle I have had to overcome in my life.
What do you have to offer a potential partner?
I have a lot of love, compassion, fun and adventure – all the cheesy things. Mostly, I want to offer my potential partner the kind of love that I give to my most cherished best friends.
Have you been in love before?
I have been lucky to be in love twice before, both with my best friends.

I don’t believe there is only one person out there for you. But I do believe there are people that intertwine and connect with your soul on a deeper level than other people ever can. It’s very rare.

What is your proudest achievement to date?
Starting my building company at 25, I didn’t realise at the time but when I look back, I’m proud of my younger self.
Why do you think you’re still single?
I had no interest in dating, I wanted to focus on my daughter, work and just didn’t feel the need to have a man around. I don’t like meeting people via social media, only if I’m out for dinner and meet in person but I am also quite a homebody.
What are your relationship deal breakers?
Drama, gaslighting, lying, insecure men who then need validation from another woman, unhygienic, judgemental and controlling.

Compare your love life up to now, with a romantic comedy—and explain your choice!
The Wedding Date. I’m such a people pleaser, I am always saying sorry, always putting others ahead of myself, worried about how people perceive me, chasing a guy that isn’t worth my time. When I just let my hair down and enjoy myself, I attract quality men and I need to remind myself of this more.
What are your relationship deal breakers?
If they don’t compromise or put as much effort in as I do. I want to feel like they want me and that I’m not a burden on them. I also find it really unattractive if they are lazy and unmotivated or aggressive with a controlling nature.

Yes and if you say you don’t, go watch someone give birth and fall in love with their baby straight away or go look at some puppies and tell me it’s not love at first sight.
What are your relationship deal breakers?
They need to want kids in their future. I also don’t like it when people are rude to others and they must be able to communicate their feelings. Oh, and they need to love animals.

When was your last relationship and why did it end?

Describe yourself in five words.
I would best describe myself as determined, considerate, genuine, transparent and a go-getter.
Have you been in love before? (Please explain)
From my knowledge I would say I have felt some degree of love once before. I had a wave of emotions that made me feel that they were the one, but it wasn’t quite right.

What are your hobbies / interests outside of work?
Anything that makes my son happy, makes me happy. We play video games mostly on Nintendo switch, doing arts and crafts, he loves basketball so we shoot hoops when we can. I enjoy boxing training and playing tennis with my friends.
Is this your first brush with fame?
I guess being on this show would be considered my first brush of fame, although I have competed in beauty pageants in the past. I placed in the top 10 for an international pageant called Miss Intercontinental which was held in the Dominican Republic in 2010, representing Samoa which made me the first south pacific nation to place in an international pageant. I was also Miss World Samoa 2014.

Do you believe in love at first sight?
I believe in lust at first sight. I think love comes once you really get to know the intricacies of a person.
What is the saddest moment/lowest point in your life?
I think my last relationship brought me to the lowest point in my life. It ended up being quite toxic and emotionally that took a toll on me.

Why did you apply for the show?
I have been a fan of the show ever since it first aired and I’ve seen some wonderful love stories blossom. I couldn’t think of a more perfect couple than Sam and Snezana. I want that kind of love. So pure and beautiful. I applied because I felt this magnetic pull to be on the show, so I thought why not give it a go. I’m ready for love, it’s just a matter of time to meet the one for me.
What is your proudest achievement to date?
Modelling and being able to travel internationally for work is definitely something I am extremely proud of. Being a petite woman at 5’1, it has never stopped me from pursuing my dreams and doing what
makes me happiest.
What are your relationship deal breakers?
Smokers, drug users, bad hygiene and not being kind-hearted.

7:30pm Sunday – Wednesday on 10.

    1. They’re really hoping it will pick up online in the same vain as Love Island does. And while it is rather successful in the BVOD space, I don’t think it’s anywhere near as successful as Nine’s offering.
