Suits spin-off ordered to pilot

Suits: LA to be set in the same world as the original show but with a new group of characters.

NBC has ordered a pilot for a Suits spin-off.

Creator Aaron Korsh is helming called Suits: L.A. to be set in the same world as the original show — but with a new group of characters.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, production is due to begin in March in Vancouver which, should it go to series, would put it in play for the 2024-25 Fall season.

No casting has been announced yet, but star Patrick J. Adams has previously said, “If I got the phone call, I’m ready to suit up again. I love the show, I love the character and I loved working with all these people.”

Suits has been a ruanway hit on streaming platforms post its broadcast life.

U.S.viewers watched 57.7 billion minutes of Suits in 2023, — the highest yearly total in the four years ratings service Neilsen has publicly shared streaming data.

  1. Suit was originally developed as drama about merchant bankers, but in the days of occupy Wall Street that wasn’t going to fly, so it was converted into a corporate legal drama. By the end the stories had become very silly. Pearson was about Chicago politics. Now Suit II is a spin off set in LA about Hollywood law with none of the original cast and not using the original locations (Toronto) as I guess Vancouver looks different and more like LA apparently. Ironically the reason Suits suddenly became a hit was because nobody watched in on USA because they’d cut their cable and were streaming Netflix. Now a slight push and Netflix’s algorithm turned into the hit of 2023 during the strikes. Family Law has been renewed for S4 and that is starting production in March too so it’s going to be crowed in Vancouver.

  2. A bit OT, but was only looking at the Nielsen webpage yesterday:
    nielsen.com/insights/2024/streaming-unwrapped-streaming-viewership-goes-to-the-library-in-2023/

    Suits 1st, Bluey 2nd & NCIS 3rd, and this:

“Americans streamed 21 million years’ worth of content last year.”

Wonder how many hours per day per adult that would work out to?

  3. After the success in streaming this isn’t a shock but Suits leaned a lot on its exceptional cast so it is highly unlikely the magic will be able to be recreated… see Pearson.
