Report: UK to revive Hole in the Wall?

Don't hold your breath for Australia to follow suit on this one...

I can’t imagine this ever taking hold here…. but Britain is reportedly set to revive game show Hole in the Wall, 15 years after it last appeared.

The gameshow, inspired by the Japanese game Brain Wall, only got two seasons in its original run. The programme involved celebrities having to contort their body to fit into a shape cut out of a wall that moved towards them at varying speeds. If they were unsuccessful the wall would push them into a pool of water. Wow.

It originally screened across 2008 – 2009.

In Australia Jules Lund hosted the series which lasted just 8 episodes when it screened on Nine in 2008. Amonst the celebs who featured were Scott Cam, Tottie Goldsmith, Mark “Jacko” Jackson, Richard Reid, Giaan Rooney, Jason Dundas, Sara-Marie Fedele and Paul “Fatty” Vautin.

Gladiators has been a big revival success in the UK, hence the suggestion of a Hole in the Wall revival -although it is yet to be confirmed.

And there’s certainly no talk of an Australian return.

At this rate a 2023 April Fool’s gag about Man O Man returning may have been ahead of its time…

  1. David, I remember a few years ago, that you had similar thoughts when ITV announced a revival of Dancing on Ice. (Even sharing a clip of Karl Stefanovic dancing to prove your point!)

Guess what, that revival of Dancing on Ice was a success and continues to run to this day!

    1. Well it continues to run but I don’t think many would call it a success. It’s a far inferior product than it’s original run.

The difference with Hole in the Wall is it wasn’t a success first time around, and producers pitching a revival doesn’t mean broadcasters are buying.

  2. Apart from Celebrity Splash (which it resembles) I remember Hole in the Wall as the least interesting, most poorly produced prime time effort in living memory.
