Renewed: Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar

Lavish Indian epic has been renewed for a second series just a month after its launch.

Newly-launched Indian epic Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar has been renewed for a second season by Netflix.

The lavish series is the first television series by Bollywood director Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

The 8 part series centres about the lives of tawaifs at the red-light district of Heera Mandi in Lahore during the Indian independence movement against the British Raj with favourite Bhansali performers including Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha.

Within the first week of its May 1 launch, the series became the most-viewed Indian series for the streamer globally, reigning in the No. 1 spot in the India Top 10 chart since its launch.

Variety reports Season 2 was announced at an event in Mumbai with a flash mob of 100 danced to a medley of songs from the series.
