Actor Samuel Johnson was given a good behaviour bond of 12 months today after pleading guilty to an assault on a man at Star City Casino.
Johnson admitted to repeatedly punched guest Ben Benson, of Brisbane, before stomping on his head as he lay prone on the floor.
The next day he contacted police and admitted to the incident, a move which may have led to his escaping conviction.
According to The Age, Magistrate Brian Maloney said he accepted the attack was out of character, and Johnson’s early contact with police.
“You couldn’t get any earlier in point of time to ringing the police and saying I’m the person you are looking for, and by the way how is the victim doing?” Mr Maloney said.
Johnson, who was been treated for depression at the time, told media,”I can only reiterate my apologies.
“I behaved like a goose and I’ve been remorseful since the moment it happened,” he said.

The message is simple – if you are on TV, different rules apply because your F A M O U S. Newton, Johnson, Meakin – the list goes on.
Seems you can bash or assault someone but when in court put on your puppy dog eyes and say “i am on medication for depression” and that gets you a pardon. (same also to Matthew Newton) What message does that give to society?
I’ve detested him since I first saw him in … what was that show filmed in St Kilda??? … and this prooves I was spot on!
Jack!
