Seven gives MASH a Home Improvement

MASH is indeed to be mashed for summer, replaced by another US sitcom.

Of course TV Tonight would love to lay claim to this one, but in reality Seven had already made the switch before a certain post on this site mid-week.

The network is removing MASH from the schedule from Monday December 1, replacing it with repeats of Home Improvement at 5pm weekdays.

As part of the daytime afternoon line up changes, It’s Academic is replaced with Go Go Stop and Deal or No Deal goes into repeats.

Desperate Housewives repeats will also end with a double ep on Wednesday Dec 10 with golf due the next day.

TV Tonight understands Seven is very fond of MASH, even though it is beaten by TEN News. No guarantees it won’t return…

  1. How about Seven should repeats of classic Wheel Of Fortune between 1997 to 2004? The classic episodes featured the Rob Elliott era and Adriana Xenides final years of the game show.

  2. good to see a positive response to programming news for once, its been a while.

well its become obvious that the success of the news at 6 is strongly associated with lead in success. has this chain of events made its way to 5:00?? i know i will be watching HI instead of news if i am ever watching tv at 5. i expect AR(probably stay at 5 nxt year) to take a hit here.

another contender for the future should be my wife and kids

  3. I’m thrilled having Home Improvement back more often but yeah I remember the days of channel 9’s Warner Brothers hour.

They showed Batman The Animated Series. That was awesome.

  4. stevie g, that’s exactly what I want afternoon TV to be like. Even when I was at primary school in the 90’s, there were cartoons galore on. What is wrong with cartoons? There’s barely any cartoons on these days. Most of them are on early in the morning and a couple of the ABC, which are no good anyway (what happened to the good ones).

If not cartoons then why not classic 60’s and 70’s shows? You mentioned Lost in Space. That is a fabulous show. People my age don’t seem to care about old shows but a lot of them defined certain genres that we wouldn’t have today if it weren’t for them. What about The Munsters? It would be great to see that on TV again (even though I have the DVD’s). I grew up in a household that watched many classic shows. There are many great shows made these days but things are chopped and changed so much that you can’t enjoy anything without a DVD set.

I like Home Improvement but it is still on TV a lot anyway. I see it used as a filler often and it’s sometimes on the weekend. I don’t think they’ll keep it on long but what I’d like to see are shows that haven’t been shown in a long, long time or that aren’t on DVD so it’ll give people a chance to see them.

  5. Yay I loved watching Home Improvement as a child. My little brother watched an ep recently when it was on on the weekend and liked it too (he hadn’t seen it before). Good news!

  6. Yeah….at least home Improvement is a step in the right direction. Airing a show that hasn’t been around for a while and the younger ones might not have seen before.

  7. Looks like Seven are listening to my suggestions 🙂 Great to see Home Improvement back but any idea what season/episode they are starting with? And stevie i know what you mean but it was a different time back then..kids these days are always on the pc and not watching tv like our generation did after school.

  8. Good move as MASH is well past it’s expiry date for airing in this timeslot. It has been on non-stop since mid 2006. Classic TV is a good idea and Nine should try it again. They had Happy Days on a few years ago, how about Full House or anything to get younger viewers in. Home Improvement will be a great change for Seven.

Ten News will still be the winner in this timeslot.

  9. It’s funny how late afternoon TV is now aimed at the oldies with news, antiques, deal or no deal and fuddy duddy sitcoms like MASH and Home Improvements. When I was growing up afternoon tv had fabulous shows like Superman, BugsBunny, Lost in Space, Gilligans Island, Bewitched, the Flinstones, Get Smart, I Dream of Jeanie, The Brady Bunch…the list goes on. It’s where my love of tv began. I don’t know what the kids get up to after school these days, but there certainly not glued to commercial tv. I don’t expect them to play all those brilliant shows from the 60s and 70s, but there are more recent classics that could get an airing. What about Full House or The Wonder Years?

  10. Good move. MASH repeats can only go on so long and Home Improvement is a good natured show for that timeslot. Family friendly and lots of episodes. 111 HITS airs it now and I like watching it back.
