Gallery: Wisteria Lane

Keeping Wisteria Lane manicured with perfect lawns and picket fences takes hard work by the staff at Universal Studios. Come peek behind the scenes.

The park benches are turned upside down as Wisteria Lane gets its regular manicure by staff at Universal Studios.

Colonial Street -its real name on the studio lot- is now best known as the abode of the Desperate Housewives neighbours. Susan, Bree, Lynette, Gabby and their neighbours live in perfect picket-fence homes here, but as we know it’s a hotbed of gossip, murder and intrigue.

As these photos, kindly supplied by a reader on the backlot tour, indicate, it takes a lot to upkeep the facade when the show isn’t filming and the tour bus is driving by (you can even see the coaches in the aerial shot).

The end of the street handily includes a cul de sac and park. Just out of view is the house on the hill as used in Psycho!

Some of the homes now resident to Fairview locals have been used in other productions notably:

– Gabby & Carlos’ house was also home to Don Knotts in The Ghost & Mr Chicken.

– Lee & Bob’s house was also home for The Applewhites in season 2, but is best known as home of The Munsters.

– The home of Mike (formerly Mary Alice’s) was used in Leave it to Beaver.

– Mrs McCluskey’s house was used in Father Knows Best.

  1. I watched B&S last year in the absence of a similar Australian show. Now that PTTR is (or will be) on I’ll have double the TV-viewing fun. Plus a bit o’ farce in the shape of DH won’t go astray.

  2. No way are Bones and CM high quality shows, they’re just like every other lame ass CBS cop show on Nine, at least DH is something fresh and different. The overarching mysteries that recur through each season are great and the scripts are really well written, much more so than your typical US soap like Grey’s and B&S. That said, I probably won’t be watching season 5, I’m watching too many TV shows as it is and frankly a 17 year old male shouldn’t be watching Desperate Housewives, its just weird, even if it is a fun show. Bring on Lost and Dollhouse!!

  3. Cant wait for B&S. Glad Im not the only one…I used to watch DH, but it got a little crappy last season. I did watch the first couple of season 5 though, and its looking really good. Cant handle a fat Gabby though. It wasbetter when she was doing the gardener lol.

  4. yay for DH, i’ve tried not to wee it but i have seen a few bits on youtube.

ch7 seems to be doing a lot of promotion for it so maybe it will do ok. sunday might give it a new audience, and i assume most of the viewers from last season will return. its not the type of show that people stop watching. then again it could backfire with increased competition.

@nick C i was wondering about B&S aswell, maybe its returning to monday 9:30. or maybe the sucess of PTTR has thrown it a lifeline and 7 is confident enough to try it at 8:30? but we know that 7 has promised it for february.

  5. To Nick ( and others) I am not sure how well Ratings will go for season 5 beacause it is moved from Mondays to Sundays Ch 7 want better ratings on Sunday and Greys is set to follow at 9.30, so we shall see how it goes, but I will have to rearrange my Tv viweing schedule once all these shows return. I am not sure if i will bother watching greys after last season. But I want to know where my real US fave Brothers and Sisters will screen this year? Any one any ideas yet?

  6. I first got hooked on Desperate Housewives when Seven showed blocks of the first season or two either late at night or lunchtime for a few weeks solid.
Previously could not get into it but seeing it 2 eps in a row, and day after day peaked my interest.
As for the studio lot and “houses there, wonder how they film with tour after studio tour.

  7. I’ve seen season 5 and think it is just as good as the 1st season. Great, fresh story lines, new mysteries, great blend of comedy and drama and an array of likeable characters. i really hope the 5 yr leap will gather more interest this year and audiences peak around the 2 mil mark like when it first started

  8. Yes I’ve seen it and it’s pretty average. Hardly high quality more trashy..

7 have some high quality shows (bones, criminal minds) but the despos aint one of them.

  9. you’re not the only one lee, i will watch it on 7. for the average non-downloader like me i actually prefer the network to air the season in Feb, every fasttracked show last year started with little promotion, took weeks off, and has to take a 10 week break, some of them got axed or low ratings as a result. i prefer to watch it in the same time slot start to finish without interuptions.

this season looks soo good from the promos, and i’ve been hearing that the 5 year leap is getting good responses (i had doubts about that). can’t wait.

knoxoverstreet, have you ever seen the show, i mean i know thats you opinion but “yawn” and “silly” would be the last criticisms i would use. i find it extremely thrilling and well written.

  10. oh knoxoverstreet, so whats wrong with this show, (apart from the fact that its not on the network that you work for)

i’m probably one of the few people on this site that hasn’t seen it yet. but i cannot wait. i think that this is the best drama that the US have ever made. the writers, actors, characters, storylines, comedy are all fantastic!!

    high quality entertainment here.

  11. Yawn!

Must admit my interest perked up at the end..I have an interest in houses used in old sitcoms. May have to watch this silly show just to see the Leave It To Beaver house!

  12. well its good to see that they’ve recovered from the tornado.

dpes anyone know if mrs. mclusky’s house actually destroyed in filming or was it just a special effect?

same with susan and edies house when it burned down.
