Bumped: Dexter

TEN moves Dexter back to Sundays, replacing it with NCIS repeats.

dexter61TEN has moved on the low figures for Dexter on Monday nights.

Instead it will move the show to double episodes late on Sundays, where the show was airing last year.

Monday nights it will add repeats of NCIS -its most popular show.

Dexter is out from March 9th and returns Sunday March 15 at 10:40pm. Anyone who has seen Series 2 knows it is a deftly-plotted season.

On Monday the show took 506,000 viewers. Part of the problem is it has already screened on pay television, exacerbated by the lengthy issues related to So You Think You Can Dance on Mondays (ten minutes stretched to forty). It’s also already out on DVD.

Based on these two series, it’s unlikely TEN will commit to the third.

  1. not worried wether ten is moveing it or not, it ant going to stop me of not watching it on time, i have a fast internet and will be watching it commercial free , then i will buy it when its out on dvd, gotta love that show and couldnt miss it..

Dexter will return for season four on September 1st 2009.

  2. I think 10 really should have given Dexter fans some notice of having moved it. Telling us nothing and going here’s some NCIS again is really obnoxious, even for a commercial TV network. It’s all well and good to say it’s not a loss to Dexter fans who could just go and buy it on DVD or whatever, but to be frank I’ve been searching local shops for a long time now and I’ve never seen a single one on sale anywhere. Even if I could find it, I probably couldn’t afford 2 or 3 seasons worth of DVDs…

For me, watching it on Monday made Mondays much less painful; it was something to look forward to. Having it so late on Sunday – esp double episodes? – is only going to make me hate Mondays all the more. Lol. I suppose at least I can turn to ABC2 and watch Code Geass now.

Y’know, I love NCIS for all its cliche and predictability, but what I do not love is how 10 flogs the reruns as though people really want to see Caitlin get shot in the head again. I can’t count how many times I’ve seen that episode. If they were going to do reruns why didn’t they just go back to the very first episode of season 1? It might have made the problem less initially irritating.

  3. Thanks, Ten. I love it when you play the promo for next weeks ep and then do a reshuffle mid week without telling me. I simply love it when you screw around with your programming like that.

    /sarcasm

  4. TEN has got to be joking! “N.C.I.S.”instead of “Dexter”? My wife and I sat down with our regular Monday night anticipation for a show that has some inkling of originality (something sadly lacking on all commercial stations) and they instead give us this cliched, boring, predictable disgrace? Why didn’t TEN just play their test pattern? It’s like emptying the contents of your wallet into the toilet and replacing it with the turds that were already floating in the bowl.
While I’m on the subject of turds, I unfortunately watched 2 episodes of Cold Case on NINE. Formulaic garbage! If you watch this excuse for entertainment, remember that the first character you are introduced to (other than the regulars)is guilty! Don’t waste your time with the other cardboard cut-out suspects! Is the star of that show real or a ghost? She should host a show “When Cosmetic Surgery Goes Wrong”. I have never seen a station plummit as severely as Nine has. “20 to 1” is so incredibly superficial it defies description! It’s an embarrassment. From now on I am only wading through ABC and SBS programs. Seven, Nine and TEN are really starting to stink! These rotting carcasses are turning my stomach. And I haven’t even begun…

  5. Dexter is the best show on TV – TEN is mad … I know given the content that it should be on 9.30pm – but it was very bad form just to move it without notice.

  6. Glad to see I wasn’t the only person shocked and disappointed on Monday night. Dexter is the only show on tv that I currently have to see each week – so seeing NCIS come up instead with no prior warning was unbelievable! How incredibly rude to the half million odd viewers that tuned in. Ten has consistently jerked around Dexter fans in the past with late time slots and changing days its aired. It’s no wonder fans turn to dvd and paytv.

  7. Damit 10 when you decied to not show dexter you should of put a
old ep of Dexter on instead of NCIS
Matthews right though it doesnt crash with Boston legal any more if its on sundays
but it is a still pathetic time 10.40pm! by the time is finishes it willbe 11.30 – 12
you do realised that alot of late teens will stay up and watch it
while other people will watch it and be really tired the next day!
i think someone needs to brush up on there timing skills.

  8. Must say that I prefer the Sunday Night slot , although 10.40pm is a bit late – especially for double episodes. Just annoyed at the lack of notice about the change from TEN. Wasn’t impressed when NCIS came on!!! Dexter Dexter Dexter!!!

  9. NCIS only did about 150 000 better than dexter last week, it is still in the 600 000’s like everything 10 ever tries in that monday 9:30pm timeslot, if their number 1 show cannot save that timeslot then why don’t they just realise that is the best they are ever going to get in there and just show new episodes of stuff like dexter or supernatural that will make the viewers happy, even if the ratings don’t show it.

  10. i find this uterrly ridiculous. they pushed for a new timeslot only to say “oh dam this aint going to work lets move it to an even worse timeslot” about 6-7 episodes in. i dont see how repeats of NCIS would do any better. the new timeslot is inconvenient for me as i have school the next day and recording and watching another time, or staying up and watch it is really not a possibility and the target auidence for it would be about the same boat. and i cant believe they probably wont commit to the next series as well. we need a review of our ratings system, too many shows have been kicked off the air in the past 6 months, and does it accomodate for the changing amount of viewers in total each night and put in in comparision to other shows at the same time? (just a question)

  11. –.– Well I for one am disappointed, as I adore Dexter. Course moving on to watching it on Sundays but double eps that will make it so late for those of us that work. ^.^;; Will have to go buy the sereis I guess. Personally I can’t stand NCIS but ah well each to their own. Crime Investigation Australia is on the other side way better then NCIS.

  12. Well now i’m pissed, turned on to watch Dexter with the girlfriend and bam get NCIS.

Guess it shows that the Australian public don’t know a good show if it walked up and slapped them in the face. But then again this is the same public that screams at anything remotely controversial.

  13. This is unbelievable. Why play re-runs of re-runs? I like NCIS, but refuse to watch the same episodes yet again. Stuff you Channel 10, your programming blows!

  14. I’m annoyed that Ch 10 didn’t bother letting us Dexter fans know that they’d moved it….just “NCIS up next” without letting us know when the next Dexter episode will air….just spent 20 minutes trying to find out…luckily a link on Ch 10 forums led me here. All the best scripted/acted shows get bumped….not mindless enough for the general public.Oh well….late to bed onSunday nights for me again.

  15. I’m sick and tired of arrogant TV stations yanking shows during a season. Ten have lost me! Channel 9 kept doing this to their customers and I stopped watching many of their shows. NCIS is boring!!!!!

  16. I’m hoping that the NCIS reruns are only a place-holder and we are gong to see the return of Supernatural very soon. The US is about to end its 6 week hiatus of the show and start running new episodes again. If Ten jump on the ball and start screening the 4 episodes they already have in hand then we won’t get too far behind. It’s the fast-tracking of this fabulous show that works well for the fans.

Ten needs to wake up to its more popular shows and the reality is that Supernatural is hugely popular with a wide audience, even though the “ratings” may not support this. Our current ratings system is a farce.

  17. Well said ‘hmmm’. A glance down the top 20 programs for each week really makes you start to question the Australian public’s taste.
If you haven’t seen Season 3 yet, do it! Some fine storytelling.

  18. You cannot flick pass this as Paytv / downloads or DVD sales ruining the ratings because it’s been screened already. Paytv is not full of Dexter loving viewers waiting for a new episode, it’s instead a huge mix of viewers primarly sport.

Dexter is not as appreciated (as some say) on FTA because it’s not a mainstream program. It has confronting issues and that is a deal breaker for some. I dislike this show but I not saying it’s good or not good, but it shows that FTA commercials cannot survive with semi popular programming and if you want it pay for it one way or another.

What FTA should not do is cut a run of the show mid series and say that’s it. Put it on at 2am if you have to or sell it to pay but don’t yank it for good – that really sucks.

  19. Its really not that bad guys. Ignore the double they had this week, thats not permanent, they were just waiting for Lie To Me Eps! Having repeats on isnt a bad idea, they rate well, NCIS fans wont mind it seeing a repeat.. I know I wont! So that means we have repeats on at 9.40 Mondays, and new eps on Tuesdays. Works well for me.
