The ABC has picked up a bunch of documentaries, and the third instalment of Robin Hood, from the BBC.
Life (10 x 50) is a natural history blockbuster, shot in HD, exploring the diversity of life on Earth.FFilmed on every continent and in every habitat across the world, each episode is entirely dedicated to one of the planet’s ten most important wildlife groups.
Yellowstone (3 x 50) follows the intertwining stories of the inhabitants of one of the world’s last and most spectacular wildernesses. This BBC/Animal Planet and Discovery co-production reveals the grandeur of this unique American setting as its animals struggle to survive over the course of three vividly changing seasons.
Nature’s Great Events (3 x 50), a BBC/Discovery Channel co-production in association with Wanda Films, unveils the spectacular power of nature as it witnesses the planet’s most breathtaking natural events, and follows the dramatic wildlife stories behind them.
The factual series Human Journey (5 x 50) undertakes five epic journeys across the globe and explains how humans conquered the planet. Tracing the ancient routes of our early ancestors it reveals the extraordinary and brutal challenges they faced.
The third series of hit drama series Robin Hood (produced by Tiger Aspect) has also been acquired. No airdate as yet.
ABC2 also picks up two series of the eclectic studio music show Later…with Jools Holland (9 x 60 and 7 x 60). And striking new Canadian drama series Being Erica (13 x 45) stars Erin Karpluk (The L Word) as Erica, a thirty-something failure who finds herself flung back into her teenage past in full possession of her adult mind. Being Erica is a Temple Street Productions production for CBC and BBC Worldwide.
“Given the quality and the range of this line-up, I know it will play well to ABC audiences,” added Marena Manzoufas, ABC TV’s Head of Programming. “The natural history slate in particular will be a huge draw card for our viewers.”

I am so glad Robin Hood is coming back on the ABC.
Nature Great Events … shot in HD, the ABC on purchased the SD version & broadcast the upscaled version on ABC HD.
Yellowstone … shot in HD, guess what … the ABC purchased the SD version & will broadcast the upscaled version on ABC HD.
Why does the ABC even have a HD channel?
Nature’s Great Events … 6 episodes, not 3:
01 – The Great Melt
02 – The Great Salmon Run
03 – The Great Migration
04 – The Great Tide
05 – The Great Flood
06 – The Great Feast
Narrated by Sir David Attenborough.
Of course DC had to both rename each episode & use a different narrator !!!
The ABC is saying there’s “no news” about the purchase of Robin Hood Series 3 – so where did your info come from?
Yay for Robin Hood. I had presumed that ABC1 had already picked this up. Can’t wait to see it.
And I think I’ve finally been convinced to convert to HD I’ve been dying to see Later…with Jools Holland.
Can’t wait to see the new series of Robin Hood.
More money going overseas from May’s Budget and nothing to Australian Community Television Stations. Very sad.
I didn’t especially love the first couple of episodes of Being Erica, but a friend assures me it hits its groove soon enough.
Robin Hood is strange this season, with no Marion as the motivator. But Guy of Gisborne still looks a dead ringer for Paul Dempsey from Something For Kate 😀
Oh, and Mike – there will be no more episodes of Extras made, ever. The ABC can’t buy what doesn’t exist.
How I wish the ABC won’t put Robin Hood on Sunday ….
Being Erica is a great pickup. I loved the first season and am looking forward to a second series. Hope we have an airdate soon. Yay Canada! 🙂
Glad to see we can watch some Canadian shows at last. Hopefully the ABC can pick up a few more quality programs from our Canadian friends.
What about more series of Extras
I already seen the first four episodes of Robin Hood season 3 and it has an interesting approach to it following the way that season 2 ended.
Yay for Being Erica, I’ve heard so much about this show I can’t wait to see it!
And watch these appear on Channel 7 not long after 😛
I’d like them to show Panorama
yay for robin hood. i hope they repeat the first 2 series again on ABC2, i don’t usually watch abc so i never saw their original airings but recently started watching on abc2, but even to that i was a late comer and missed the first episodes coz i had no idea it was on. i just hope if they do re-air it i notice this time, looking through the tiny little abc2 listings in the tv guide is not something i usually do, but the dvds are so expensive i’m holding off on buying them in the hope abc repeats it again.
ABC2 made some good pickups there.
Why doesn’t the ABC pick up QI?
How many years until they are broadcast?
