  1. Thanks for that reply update David

Without doubt I’m sure one of the main aims of this show was to provide “water cooler talk” or in this case “internet forum talk” so I guess on that basis alone… love it or hate it… it’s achieved that in spades.

Everyone where I work was talking about it with a huge range of opinions and predictions so it certainly made an impact for good or for bad.

  2. Porkchop, if you think I for one had formed negative opinions on the show before it aired you’re completely off the mark. While I did post comments on this site when the show was first announced to the tune of “oh no, not Hughesey again”, when I saw the rehearsal previews during last week my opinion changed – as I also commented here. I think, I said, that this might work.

The train wreck I saw last night made me feel embarrassed to have had so much faith in it.

The combining of serious news about bombings and murder with celeb gossip, comedy and cross-promotion simply does not work. This element was missing from the previews.

As a light-hearted look at the more comedy-friendly aspects of the day, it might work. But they need to spare us the political commentary. A bunch of comedians passing judgement in favour of draconian liquor licensing law proposals was evidence enough of that.

Later last night I watched an episode of the Channel 4 UK show “You Have Been Watching”, which is in some ways similar (though commenting only on what’s been on TV). I was in fits of laughter all the way through, particularly their demolition job on Michael Jackson’s memorial (which would have sparked tabloid outrage here instantly!)

The 7pm Project has got a long, long way to go before it stands a chance of even raising a smile, let alone actual laughter…

  3. I tried watching it, but sorry to say i don’t find shows like that entertaining or funny.Probably aimed at a younger audience. Why do they have to joke and come out with those one liners that aren’t even funny all the time.

  4. It was alright, the awkward silence was cringe worthy and Ruby’s Interview was horrible. I get she’s a proud lesbian but she went a bit too into it for me. Hope it can be consistent with a few special guests here and there. Hughsey and Carrie were great!

  5. HI David,
Re:The 7PM Project,i first logged in this morning to read viewers reaction to last nights episode, mostly negative,so when i checked in the afternoon to see how it rated i was very surprised to see it got 5th position,it thought personally it would be well down the list after all the emailers reviews,i,myself am 50/50 on the program. It now seems it has a future after achieving those results.

  6. @Kylie… permit me to respond on behalf of your sister (or at least guess her reply)

    ‘Hi Kylie,
The Rove voice-over lady and Newsreader lady = same person.
The newsreader lady isn’t reading an obituary, so smiling is probably okay,
    and you spelt ‘lose’ wrong.
Thanks, see you at Mum’s tonight, she’s cooking meatloaf, luv sis”

    😛

  7. I don’t think it was as bad as so many people have made it out to be. For a first effort, it was pretty good. It’s not brilliant, it’s not great. But it’s the very first episode. There is always going to be some teething problems. I thought the analysis of the 60 minutes interview was funny – although I didn’t see the point in James’s “My favourite part of Masterchef was, oh wait, I had to watch 60 minutes” considering that all of the sections they were showing were from 8:30-930 – after the end of 60 minutes – as a joke, it was just stupid, because it made no sense – change the channel once the show finishes!

Although most people only know Carrie from Rove, she is actually a serious news reader (I think in Melbourne?). It may have been a little disconcerting to begin with, but surely after the first two minutes, you figure out she’s on a different show with a different role. Not that difficult an adjustment to make!

All in all, I’ll stick with it, see how it goes once they settle into it. God knows it’s better than trashy/tacky/crappy Home and Away!

  8. No prize req’d for this statement but, I found 7PM Pro to be different to Masterchef.

CH10 had me as a viewer for 3 months because of MC.

I will be going back to ABC news, which is probably typical of a few viewers.

That said, it seems like early days yet to judge 7pm. They have a huge hole to fill in the timeslot and I hope they maintain some of their key demographic.

I would rather support Australian produce any day.

  9. I’m sorry, but some this just reminds me of 7HD’s talk show panel “The Nightcap” from last year. It’s very similar, but all chat shows are…Don’t like this. James doesnt need to be on this show, and sorry to Carrie but I can’t take her seriously reading the news.. seriously. Back to Scrapheap Challenge on ABC2!

  10. This is what I emailed to my sister who works at Ten;

It was weak. They need to get rid of the rove voice over lady. Newsreader lady needs to be less happy when reading headlines and not be permitted to speak as much as she did.
    Loose the audience.

  11. well, I’m off to the filming of it tongiht… So at least I’ll be able to say that I got to see it live! Just gutted i don’t get to see Julie…. 🙁

  12. Too early to comment people but give it a chance.

Worse that could happen is that it tanks and they put Jerry Springer on at 7pm for those of us sick of Summer Bay or 2.5 men.

  13. @Chris, did you really need to remind yourself, like, more than once?? Seriously? That’s pretty funny..
Really though, I thought it was ok.. it’s only real downfall is it’s a little sloppy and has no punch or real pacing yet. That will come with time. The only other thing I have to pick on was the shaking camera during the Ruby Rose segment… did the cameraman have waaay too much sugar or something? That was quite distracting.
I laughed a few times and thought the Julie interview was pretty good too, even if a good section of it was taken up with recaps from the MasterChef finale.. guys, we saw the dang show, no need for the trip down memory lane.

  14. Look I can think of worse ways to spend a half hour (I’m looking right at you Home and Away!) but give it time to settle and they might have something.

Only one quibble – who is Ruby Rose – I’d count myself as a ‘regular’ viewer of MTV and I’ve sure as hell never heard of her!

  15. Folks, you do need to be a little more constructive with your comments if the network and Mott ever take us seriously.
Hats off to them for taking yet another risk.
Good overall start but the show needs to settle down and find its groove.
Nine and Seven never seem to take risks like TEN.
The easy option for TEN is damn the lot of you and run the Simpsons..less risk but no long term rewards for us the viewer.
Very good opening effort for me.
I suspect the low rent negatives out there were also the authors of “Masterflop”.

  16. To all those saying give it a go it was only the first night….I’d like to point out that they have actually been rehearsing for about 2 weeks – so not their first night at all.

  17. I’ve seen worse. Will watch for the week and give them a chance to settle in. My only gripe was the the Ruby Rose interview. Was a total waste of time. Tell me about the movie not about whether their tight costumes were comfortable.

  18. Jesus arentwe a hard bunch to please….so much negativity. Most of you negative people would have formed this negativity even beofre you watched the damn thing…For night 1 it was ok. They all need to settle and and make it there own. And given time it will happen. Do you all expect miracles from night 1? I somehow remember this same neagtivity even before masterchef launched, and dont forget its rating ion the first week and second for that matter were abysmal….If I remember well masterchef on night 2 or 3 fell below 1million viewers. Once this group of talented people find their mojo together this show will work a treat. And nothing like a big news story will help them more.

Good Luck guys. Ill keep watching

  19. Lucky for all the people who didn’t like it, cos there’s quite varying options on 7, 9 & ABC.

Somehow though, I feel the haters will be back tomorrow and the next day, denouncing the show and re-iterating every awkward silence.
Personally, I reckon it’ll find it’s feet once all the hoo-hah dies down.
The slot will vary daily depending on 7PM’s guests and who’s sleeping with who at Summer Bay. 9 will pick up the leftovers of people who still believe sitcoms are in their hayday….. **cough** awkward

  20. Utter crap. I expect a big ratings drop-off in coming days. Yet more proof commerical tv has no idea how to do a satirical news program. It’s The Nation all over again.

  21. I can’t take Carrie Bickmore seriously as I’ve only ever seen her reading the news on Rove. When she was reading on the 7PM Project, I kept waiting for the punchline and I had to keep reminding myself that she’s trying to be serious.

It wasn’t very funny so it failed in that department, which is a worry since that’s probably why most people are watching it. The structure seemed all over the place and at times, it seemed a bit too much like Rove (i.e. the guest bios, the “Coming up next!” and Carrie’s newsreading). Ruby Rose’s interview was too short. The news banter was really boring. The only one worth a damn on that show was James Mathison. He was quite good, but the rest are lame.

  22. How does Rove keep getting these opportunities to make shows, none of them are any good. Hand some new shows to WTFN, Cornerbox or Granada for goodness sake…. please Ten please….. We might as well call this show the 7PM Rove The Game.

  23. It was night one so of course there are kinks to iron out.

Like the faster pace, but maybe a little too fast – seemed rushed.

Camera work shocking – when I’m watching Carrie reading news I’m distracted by seeing Charlie’s hand and hair moving about.

I like all the hosts and I think we need to give them time to build up rapport and gel – rehearsals aren’t the same as live on tv – is it live?????
