Stargate Universe to TEN

Yes, the newly-launched science fiction series will indeed be airing on TEN over summer.

robert-carlyleSome readers have been asking about ads for Stargate Universe coming to TEN.

The series will indeed air over summer, but so far there is no airdate.

This is a pretty swift move from Pay Television to Free to Air, given the series only began on the Sci Fi Channel in October, where it was fastracked from the US.

Starring critically acclaimed actor Robert Carlyle (The Full Monty, Trainspotting), SGU ollows a band of soldiers, scientists and civilians, who must fend for themselves as they are forced through a Stargate when their hidden base comes under attack. The desperate survivors emerge aboard an ancient ship, which is locked on an unknown course and unable to return to Earth.

Faced with meeting the most basic needs of food, water and air, the group must unlock the secrets of the ship’s Stargate to survive. The danger, adventure and hope they find on board the Destiny will reveal the heroes and villains among them.

  1. Okay, can some one please tell me why has SGU been taken off TV when it has only been on for 3 episodes!! It is the only reason i bother to turn the tv on in the first place.

All i can really say is TEN can take their holidays movies and stick em where the sun don’t shine!!!! Twats!!!

  2. To all those people who are talking about how all Sci Fi Shows should stay on pay, not everyone can afford Pay TV! I am so happy that Channel TEN has picked up SGU, because I would have to wait for DVD otherwise. And I am quite happy to wait a week to watch another episode than wait six months to a year for the DVD’s to come out.

  3. I have to LOL with people’s expectations for Ten, the most inept of all commercial stations to actually deliver this series in a timely and consistent manner. I always wait till it’s out as a complete season on DVD. It means I have to wait extra months, but there’s no waiting a week to see the next episode, only to find the timeslot moved, or it was postponed cos of a us fashion show. WTF?\

To the comment about sci-fi belongs on the sci-fi channel; Many sci-fi nerds and geeks have little interest in the 100 other sports channels on Fox, so why pay a huge fee for that crap plus a premium to watch a sci-fi chanel that has mainly re-runs of stuff I’ve got on DVD already.

TV has really lost it’s way, but sci-fi still rocks!!!

  4. I saw the ad which states the timeslot last night during rush, it says mondays 9:30pm from december 12th, the 12th isn’t a monday though so maybe a typo, though technically still correct they usually say the actual date not some random date that the monday will come after.

  5. @Scott – SciFi still has the first run (and fast track) rights to SGU and I doubt it will be around long on FTA, I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s gone before the end of the year to be replace but re-runs of Supernatural or NCIS…

  6. Ten, please feel free to take this off the air once ratings start again. I doubt it would rate anywhere near high enough for it to stay on…. They should have left it on the sci-fi channel where it belongs

  7. Ten … Do Not Under Any Circumstances Stuff Around With The Time Slot!
If You Do Then It Will Be Entirely Your Fault That It Fails!

I was very sceptical about it after seeing the Pilot Episode … but since then it has improved and engaged me … some of the characters are too grey but the ship and the journey are impressive … not as good as SG1, but different and interesting and we just need to get used to the fact that SG1 will only be a TV move every six months from now on …

Give it a go and handle it with care and respect!
    Jack!

  8. @Steve .. Agree with you but I started to like it at about episode 7. I really hope people watch beyond episode 3 which is where I started the internal debate of whether or not to persevere and I’m glad I did. Nothing like the fabulous SG-1 but still worth a look. Good on you Channel 10 but don’t screw it up like you did Nurse Jackie.

  9. Ten really need to launch their equivalent to GO! and 7TWO so these kinds of shows can be seen. SGU is an incredible series – the episodes so far have been nothing short of amazing. But yeah, sci-fi is too niche in this country. We’re even lucky Seven have scheduled the remaining Atlantis eps even though the series is available on DVD.

  10. Ratings very good for SGU, but it seems that its mostly all the old SG1 and SGA fans wanting a new show as they have ended.

But SGU is more like a soapie, none of the action that was in SG1 and SGA. So everyone waits in hope it will get better after character development, but 9 episodes in already that hasn’t really happened yet.

It is predictable and slow in comparison to the older series. Its more directed to those who cannot fathom out all the technical mumbo jumbo of the other gate series. And those who watch soapie type series, with sex and other relationship stories, then this is it.

If you liked the action of the older gates series, and the technical sci fi gadgets, and relationships to out old Egyptian past then SGU will not give you any of that.

It slowly grows on me but not as good as the older gate shows.

  11. Do 10 now how fast track rights to this for next year, taken off Sci fi?

Channel 10 doesn’t deserve the rights to Sci Fi shows, they stick them on late night after only a few shows.
Eureka is a great show its on at midnight, who’s going to sit up that late for it.
They will do the same to this show it will end up too late to watch for anyone

FTA doesn’t do justice to Sci Fi fans, let the Sci fi channel put them on at a decent hour and stop stealing them just to graveyard them away from fox all the time.

  12. Assuming Channel 10 don’t cut bits, and don’t play twister with the time slot, could they be the saviour of Stargate for Australia?

Although, due to Ch7 being so far behind with Atlantis, fans who were not aware that Don S Davis died in mid 2008 will be probably be a bit confused. He played General George Hammond in Stargate SG1 (and that Atlantis season 1 episode he appeared in).

  13. this’ll be the real test to prove if ten has really “listened to us” – this is sci-fi, and lets face it – the number will be poor because of that fact. I give it 2-3 weeks before it slides into the graveyard shift, before getting dumped – or getting dropped again when ratings start re-start.

That being said, I’m looking forward to it, and really hope it won’t get bounced around. I’ve given up on heros & fast forward…..and hope this show can cure my sci-fi itch!!!!

  14. Thanks for the update David. Even with the mixed US reviews it’s a great cast & I’m interested in judging the quality for myself. I’m really surprised it’s on FTA so soon though.

  15. There have been recent ads on tv but I don’t know what they said because I haven’t seen it.

On the 21st of November a co-star of SGU tweeted the following:

MingNa: #SGU premieres in Australia’s Ten Network Dec 14th! Sorry you Aussies have to wait so long!! xoxo

  16. I reckon you’ll see it follow on from Supernatural on Monday nights, and I think I read somewhere that it was going to start a week or two before xmas (7th or 14th?)

  17. I’m still on the fence about the new SG but I’m liking it more with every episode. Good to see FTA is giving it a go but I bet you anything come Feb it will be gone and viewers will once again be left hanging mid season until the following summer… thank god for SciFi!

  18. someone on here said december 14th 9:30pm and someone on the 10 message board said they saw an ad saying this too, personally I’ve only seen the ad that shows all the summer shows with no timeslots mentioned. But the timeslot does make sense because there are 10 episodes of supernatural in the first half of the season and to fit those into 8 weeks of summer the first 2 weeks have to be double episodes, leaving the 14th open for SGU.
