Panic stations as TEN dumps more shows

The cure or the cause? Trigger-happy TEN cuts out Rules of Engagement, Don't Forget the Lyrics, repeats of Glee and 30 minutes of Friday's 7PM Project. Updated.

engagement1It’s ‘Panic Stations” at Network TEN this summer as another raft of shows gets the chop from its schedules.

Rules of Engagement, Don’t Forget the Lyrics, Glee (repeats) have been dumped -even the extra 30 minutes of The 7PM Project has been ditched from Fridays, despite the network promising longer episodes through summer.

In their place are more Accidentally on Purpose, repeats of Malcolm in the Middle, new Simpsons and movies.

TEN’s trigger-happy programming follows it cutting Supernatural, Stargate Universe and a number of other shows.

The network may be reacting to a dwindling summer share, but it’s cure is also part of the symptom. Audiences respond to consistency and don’t like shows disappearing without explanation.

It’s not exactly a great way to start the year with your audience.

In fact, TEN’s programming seems to be so sidetracked, its amendments even incorrectly slated Simpsons episodes as “All New Simpsons” with “Homer the Whopper” noted as a “Season Premiere.” For the record it aired here in October. Note: TEN has since advised of an error and updated with new episodes for Mondays and Wednesdays beginning with S21E5 “The Devil Wears Nada.”

One hour editions of The 7PM Project appear to have been saved from trimming. Mondays are generally the show’s best night.

Amongst all the changes, TEN still hasn’t found room to reschedule Supernatural yet…

TEN’s changes will take effect from Thursday.

  1. The main person at 10 needs to be replaced not only because of 10 ratings but also 1hd, That should of been used as a General Entertainment staion but of course 10 managed to stuff that up.
The reason shows rate so low on 10 is because there is no trust with viewers because of these constant program changes people don’t bother to watch their US content. Atleast with 7 they either use 7two or reschedule to late at night. with their low rating programs.

  2. Malcolm in the Middle suxs I would’nt watch it if you paid me plus its been stown to death on channel 9 and comedy channel on foxtel wake up cjannel 10 no wonder that foxtel is bitter then normal free to air Free View

  3. Accidentally on Purpose has always been played Tuesday and Thursday over Summer (except when the Obama Special was on, and Christmas and New Year’s Eve for obvious reasons). Playing so close to the U.S. telecast, Ten probably weren’t sure of availability for Accidentally on Purpose, but should be congratulated for continuing with the show and not showing more Rules of Engagement repeats on Thursday which have been taken off.
Also, how is replacing Rules of Engagement repeats on Monday with first run Simpsons and repeat Simpsons on Wednesday with a first run a bad thing? Isn’t it good that Ten are showing the new episodes instead of more repeats?
Finally, I’m surprised Ten kept Lyrics and Glee rpts on Sunday for so long, with them barely managing 400,000 viewers! Consistency is one thing…but consistently getting those sorts of figures cannot be acceptable, especially leading into official ratings which start in February.
Seven have tennis and Nine have cricket to promote all their new shows…so Ten has to do something to get people to watch them before February when their regular schedule starts.

  4. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – isn’t this meant to be the Non-Ratings period??

Why move all of these shows around when ratings points supposedly don’t matter during the Summer months?

Non-Ratings used to be just that a decade or so ago,but not now it seems for some very strange reasons………..

  5. Ten should probably consider seriously bringing the start date of many of their shows forward before official ratings starts otherwise viewers are simply going to forget that Ten even exists come Feb 7 when official ratings starts again.

  6. All of these shows rate just as bad as each other so the exercise is pointless if the intention is to increase their shares. It is just going to cause more viewer confusion with guides not matching what ends up airing on Ten. Our printed guides in Sydney still show Mondays with Stargate and Supernatural on for example.

As for Malcolm in the MIddle, it now gets the “Two and a Half Men award” for most played show on commercial TV in one week. Last Friday, there were in fact five of them shown in one day. One at 11.30am, then 4 from 6.30-8.30.

  7. Hi David, just wondering why accidentally on purpose rated a mention – wasn’t it always on Tuesday and Thursday 7.30? there doesn’t seem to be any additional episodes. unless ten are dropping the office?

  8. With all Ten’s available new content — Lyrics, Psych, Monk, Supernatural, Stargate Universe, etc… — they could play them out over non-ratings instead of endless repeats that aren’t rating any better than the new stuff (sometimes much worse!)

  9. How many Malcom in the Middle were made? When will we be looping around to the pilot ep again? 10 is looking very sad at the moment … Doubt there will be a second general entainment channel. They don’t seem to have enoung to fill one. ahhhgh 10News24

  10. Ten should bring back burn notice for a 8.30 or 9.30 slot. And again they need to learn their demo is out on fri so stop putting on young programs and try and suck the oldies in with something.

  11. Wow, 3 Eps of Malcolm in 1 night when its not even a ratings bonanza lol that’s sad. I haven’t watched Channel 10 once since Neighbours finished last year, and normally its my favourite channel.

  12. “The network may be reacting to a dwindling summer share, but it’s cure is also part of the symptom. Audiences respond to consistency and don’t like shows disappearing without explanation.”

    This say’s it all really……………..

  13. OMG, what drugs are these so-called programmers taking? Non-ratings period, don’t make me laugh. I, now, don’t watch a thing on TEN. No Dr Phil, no Oprah, I would rather watch the tennis and the cricket than give this station any of my attention. Get it right, people

  14. That dosage of Malcolm is a little to high for me! Also I don’t think they should get to attached to AoP I don’t think it gets high enough ratings for CBS to renew it.

  15. The sooner 10 pulls it’s finger out and starts it’s 2nd SD channel the better. Shows like SGU, Supernatural etc then at least would have somwhere to go to instead of being pulled.
