Airdate: Australian Families of Crime. Bumped: V

After rushing the first episode of its drime documentary series to air yesterday following the death of Carl Williams, Nine brings forward the rest of the series.

Last night Nine rushed to air an episode from its crime documentary series, Australian Families of Crime, that featured Carl Williams.

It was an astute programming move, to capitalise on the news-making death of the convicted killer yesterday.

Narrated by Vince Colosimo, it included interviews with Age journalist John Silvester (Leadbelly), investigative journalist Adam Shand, broadcaster Derryn Hinch plus archival footage and dramatic re-enactments.

This Sunday it officially premieres the rest of the series with “Backpack Bloodshed: Ivan Milat”

Join Vince Colosimo as he presents the torrid details of the notorious Milat family. Some members of the family continue to support Ivan Milat, the nation’s worst serial killer, but Ivan’s brother Boris sheds light on the real Ivan.

This pushes V back to 10:30pm. This will be the third new starting time for the sci fi series.

The movie Underworld is not out with the 11:30pm timeslot TBA.

  1. @Mac: Wasn’t the Queen munching her mate enough for you? The pacing has picked up a bit, altho’ it could go a little more. I’m still watching so it can’t be too bad (I’m picky about S-F).

  2. A TV station moving shows around, wow they’ve never done that before! I dont bother watching FTV anymore. Either buy, download, (legal of course) or record and watch them when i want too.

  3. Paull : Whilst I am very much liking V, I agree with a comment David made here not long ago about how they need to start munching rodents soon. They could pick up the pace a bit, lest it befall the same fate as the original…

  4. The thing I like about V is it’s fast paced story, unlike other tv series, this show reveals something each week, and the story moves substantially.

  5. V is just too slow going anywhere. The original mini series had it wrapped and done in it’s short showing. The new V just drags along without any of the hooks the original had.

  6. All I can say is, if they decide to drop V from channel 9, they better keep it going on Go! – The way FTA treats Sci-Fi is terrible. I get that it isnt the highest rating genre, but they need to keep it on FTA even if its late at night, otherwise they are going to start driving Sci-Fi fans to get pay tv. I have been considering getting Foxtel for Sci-Fi channel – and once I am paying $50 a month for pay tv, I am going to make the most of it, so that means less FTA watching, even of their high rated shows.

  7. @Benjamin, i really don’t see a problem with crime docos, they tell us the stories of the victims and their families, which i think is important for the pubic to know.
regarding v, it’s expected with series like this to rate less over time, but compared to other series from a few years ago(lost, prison break) i think this is happening a lot sooner in the season.

  8. I don’t think there was anything 9 could have done to make V a hit. sci-fi’s like Lost that are popular in the US haven’t had an audience in Australia for years. it’s no surprise that an inferior sci-fi that isn’t popular in the US is a flop in Australia. 9 should have started with it on GO! and saved everyone the grief.

  9. V is a good show IMO, just not as good as the original. Plus scifi doesn’t do well on FTA in the main, the exception being Doctor Who. Most start out strong and end there lives in the dead of late night or now being shifted to the digital channels on FTA.

  10. Agree with a previous comment that this is perfectly suited to follow Underbelly and V despite being a good show is rating terribly as most sci-fi does here. It’s better off on GO! where it will have a consistent time slot.

  11. Bumped Twice, to then face the axe. I really couldn’t see this remake ever getting another season. It should have been turned into a mini-series, not a full season.

Ch 9 seems to be trying to achieve tv ratings via factual crime drams & shows, which is worrying on how they reap the rewards of peoples’ tragedies.
