A producer on Survivor has been taken into custody by Mexican authorities following the death of his wife in a restaurant in Cancun.

Bruce Beresford-Redman, who also co-created Pimp My Ride, told police that his wife vanished on Monday from the luxurious Moon Palace resort where they were staying.

In an earlier TV interview, Beresford-Redman said he was aiding in the search for his wife. “I’m very hopeful someone will find my wife very soon. She still hasn’t been located and we’re looking,” he had said.

Early media reports in Mexico said that Monica Beresford-Redman, who owns the Brazilian-cuisine Zabumba Bar & Restaurant, had been strangled.

Her family had reported her missing and told police they believed it had something to do with foul play.

Bruce Beresford-Redman has been nominated for three Emmy Awards, working on Survivor since its inception and last worked on the CBS show in 2004. He also worked on Mark Burnett’s short-lived series The Restaurant.

UPDATED: The producer of Pimp My Ride and formerly of Survivor is barred from leaving Mexico while authorities investigate the death of his wife whose body was found in the sewer of a Cancun resort, but remains a suspect.
