  1. Cool. Three channels from Nine that won’t get a look in, though to be fair Gem was always targeted at exactly not me.
ABC2, ABC News24 and One are still the only extra channels that will get looked at. And Eleven for Simpsons and Futurama in the unlikely event that we get it in Canberra before 2015.

  2. Interesting to note that a PBL-Nine owned channel (with the exception of NBN) is taking the WIN Corp produced Alive & Cooking again. They did before when Nine’s 11am news was only half an hour long.

On the surface, I’d say WIN’s new ‘Daily’ program would be a perfect stereotypical fit for GEM during the day, but I think Nine have worked out it’s just utter crap! 🙂

  3. @ v actually some of the best movies are being showcased on GO! late on Friday and Saturday nights. Link is a great movie, bizarre in its own right, a few weeks ago they showed The Exorcist and this week they have 1973’s The Wicker Man, huge cult movie and even more bizarre than Link. I’ll definitely be keeping my eye on that timeslot.

  4. This is looking sparse because to many channels with crap on them will not work. Why didnt the nine network launch a specific type of channel maybe a music channel or a movie channel? Something along those lines

  5. Nothing too appealing upon launch (other than Wife Swap and Secret Diary of a Call Girl), but hopefully the selection will improve as some of the shows which have been stuffed around on 9 and Go! find a new home on GEM.

  6. Thats actually a pretty boring schedule. Its more like a bad summer schedule. 7mate is no better.

And I’m sorry the race to be first by a few hours is just pathetic.

  7. Wow, cheap repeats and programs left for low ratings death. Wheres the documentaries? Where are the lifestyle shows? These are what rates high on Foxtel for women. This channel is basically Go!2.

  8. Another channel full of junk no-one wanted to watch the first time around, and tired old movies no-one under the age of 60 would enjoy…. wait, perhaps that’s the whole point?

  9. @ Adam
If you dont like free to air you can always subscribe to Foxtel.
American television is good and so it should be with the size of the population.
I really tire of people saying how bad we have it here with television, internet etc. If you dont like it Move.

  10. I would absolutely love it if some of these movies were movies from the 80’s and early 90’s like, Pretty in Pink, St. Elmo’s Fire, 16 Candles, Breakfast Club, Less than Zero, Sex Lies and Videotape, Cocktail, Singles, Heathers, Reality Bites, Pump up the Volume, Young Guns, True Romance, Pulp Fiction etc.

These movies are Never on TV. They just keep repeating the same crap over and over. I want to see some of these old films to remind me of my teenage years and early 20’s!

On Fri and Sat night late on GO there worst movies I had ever seen, which i only watched part of. One had Elizabeth Shue, made in 80’s, called Link about these monkeys gone wild. It was so bizarre and crazy, never heard of it before and will probably never hear of it again.

Why do they put such crap on when they have these gems locked away never to be seen? Why?

  11. 10:00pm Weeds (S6 premiere)

Heck yeah. Thank you Gem. You’re a rock star.

Now let’s hope Ice TV get their A into G and have an up to date guide. I’m still waiting for an EPG for Channel 31.

  12. @Adam if you want niche format channels for every topic known to man, get Foxtel. Free-to-air is not the place for that sort of thing, and I would doubt that even FTA in the US has that many niche format channels. A lot of the channel formats you mentioned are probably cable or pay-TV channels?

US FTA television is also loaded… l o a d e d…. with re-runs, paid programming (infomercials) and more re-runs and more paid-programming. Their TV is far from perfect and in some respects we are well ahead (e.g. shows that would never see the light of day on free-to-air TV there are shown here on free-to-air)

I remember Gypsy, I think I saw it on TV when i was about 8. I didn’t twig until many years later what it was actually about 🙂

  13. Sounds like a whole lot of Snore to me…obviously not in their demo…
The only thing that I’ll be watching out of that is Weeds…but since when has Wedds’ target audience been women 35+!?! Do we know from which season Weeds will be starting on Germ by chance?
